General ice fishin reports

Seems like overall the ice fishing has slowed down in my neck of the woods - finally enough ice for driving out most places though. Time for the mid-winter slump?

I've caught next to nothing the last 2 weeks

Travel on up to the big lake.. Still some fine action going on... Multi-species ranging from trout and salmon to perch to walleyes to whitefish and herring to pike.. oh and I cant forget the smelt!!

Was pretty good first ice up until now. More people due to ice travel by vehicles. The panfish action is still ok tho, try to get away from the crowds and you'll find the fish. SB

Jim, there is nothing wrong with fishing for smelt, someone has to get them out of the way so the trout will look at your bait.

I had the boys out fishing sat. and sun. Bluegill action was non stop most of the day, which is great when you got liitle ones with ya. Had to weed threw lots of little ones to get some bigger ones. Only manged to get a couple of crappies and perch. The boys got a few small pike on the tip ups also. Was a good time

My last outing in WI was the minnesuing GTG. This weekend is up to Burntside in Ely.

Ran, where do you usually fish, I'd like to get my 4.5 yo son out with other kids his age.

A bud of mine was on a local lake(Altoona) yesterday afternoon and it was slow going. He got there about 3pm and caught a few then the bite died as evening progressed. However, he's still in the stone age with his ice fishin gear and was fishin rather 'lazily' from what I can gather!

My old man was out there on Mon and I haven't heard how he did - he pounded the perch last year but hasn't been out much this year.
