Storage System for my Otter Lodge?

Dragonsm

Question

I am wondering what kind of storage/pulley systems people have come up with to store a portable fishhouse up on their ceiling. In past, I just used four bike hooks to store my fish trap, but now I have an Otter Lodge. My garage is sheetrocked (ceiling too) Currently, it sits in the back of the pickup in the garage, but I'd like to come up with a system easy enough for one man to use so I don't have to load/unload my truck every time I need to use it.

Thanks,

Steve

I would do a search on the ice fishing forum for portable storage and see what comes up. I know there was a few ideas out there. One is a system that bolts to the ceiling that has cable and a winch system to raise and lower a platform to the ceiling. I think people were getting them at Menard's for like $150. Maybe type is garage storage systems into a search page and see what you get, or maybe somebody with one with chime in.

I don't know much about pulleys and leverage. I made a simple wood frame that is slightly bigger than the sled for my Otter Lodge, and mounted 2 pulleys to the ceiling (one for each end of the frame, 2 ropes. It's too heavy for 1 guy to hoist by hand, I use the winch on my atv (otherwise you need 2 guys to hoist it up). Once it's up there I have 4 hooks in the ceiling, and a cable on each corner of the frame, to attach it to the ceiling and take the weight off the pulley ropes. It works pretty well but I'm sure there's better designs - especially if you don't have a winch. Good luck.

Quote:

This was mentioned on another post last year...

Search for "RacorPro HeavyLift" (google), it should point you in the right direction...

I don't have one, but I will...

This is the system I use for my Lodge.

I appreciate all the responses. This looks exactly like what I am looking for.

Is this something that all the Big Name building stores carry?

If so, I probably forsee a project in my near future.

Thanks again!
