Does the 7000 C3 have a bait clicker? Do any of the Garcia model 7000's have it? Going to purchase a 7000 for flatheads pretty soon and was wondering which series comes equipped with a bait clicker. Thanks,

Manny

I have not purchased one as of yet, but it is going to be my next reel purchase. I will be using it for flats as well. From what I understand it does have a bait clicker.

SERIOUSLY! It was THIS big!

Oops. The 6500 has a clicker to but for flatheads the 7000 is the better option. The 6500 is just a tad too small in my opinion. Its a good reel though that serves double duty for channels and flats for many cat'rs.

With a little creativity, a couple hose clamps, and some duct tape you could just mount a boat winch on your rod.

I believe the 7000 does have a clicker .. been a while since I had one in my hands.. I have had good luck with the 6500 models myself .. a 7000 would be great but I start to get visions of giant offshore Penn reels and lean toward the overkill side... Kind of like using a flipping stick for crappies.

But, your better to have too much than not enough when that time comes. Use what you are comfortable, and have confidence in.

Dave,

Is the St. Louis opening up or opened up by your place yet? I think towards the end of April I may give it a try. You'd think with the smaller river's coming into the St. Louis with the warmer water, possibly some kitties may be around? I'm thinking of using something stinky for bait, with the colder and probably dirty water? What do you think?

Its opening up as of a couple days ago. The Floodwood river is open here in town and is very high.... I will go take a look later and see if it all opened up yet, and check the water level on the St Louis.

As for the fishing .. it should be worth a try in a few weeks... I would get away from the local traffic here and try up near the cty 29 access, or downstream near the railroad bridge or feeder creeks near Brookston. The railroad bridge produced cats the earliest last year.. Much will depend on the water levels .. we still have a lot of snow to melt in the woods, and the water isnt low now.

bmc...

Checked out the river a couple hours ago .. still not fishable.. going to be a week before it opens up if all goes well. The water is VERY high now ... a couple more feet and we'll be fishing in the woods.

Manny ... get your reel yet?

sorry to get off topic on your post tongue.gif

bmc .. the st louis is open here now .. the water is slowly starting to drop .. if we get some decent temps fishing should pick up pretty soon ... for the moment, I'm sure we would be lucky to hook a sucker.

Thanks Dave,

I'm thinking I might give the kitty's a whirl on the 25th. Should be meeting the x at the Little Store around 5-6 and probably give it a shot for an hour or two. Any ideas on where a guy could get some store bought stink bait? Maybe I'll have to set some smelt out to thaw before I come? Keep me posted!

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks for all the info! Hey Dave, haven't got my reel yet, but the 7000 C3 is definitely my choice. The way my finances are going, I should be fully equipped by the first week of May. You're gonna have to let me know when you're ready to show me around the Minnesota. I'm getting anxious already. In the meantime, I wouldn't mind trying for channels in your neck of the woods some time soon. I'll probably end up giving you a call some time this week, got a few more questions for ya...Manny

Manny .. give me a call anytime .. sooner the better... I will give you a local number(612) to contact me at(families house, you may have old 825-4XX1 number).

I am currently in the cities with my dad in the hospital again ... I guess the 3 heart attacks, angioplasti, and pacemaker++ wasnt enough from December ... he has decided to get a major infection, another heart attack(yesterday), a major stroke(today)... needless to say when I'm not in the hospital visiting(only short periods of time allowed so he can rest) ... and if he recovers some, he will most likely lose a leg to stop the infection. All this might have a better chance of *working out* if he had any reasonable chance of surviving a surgery, or even the anestesia(sp?).

If he can pull another miracle to make it through this, or not, I still have to be around to be sure my mom doesnt have another breakdown.

As odd as it may sound to some reading this.. scouting around my known local fishing holes would be some very good brain-candy at the moment. Mother nature at times can be the magic that can keep us from crossing that thin line of sanity...

I would have to guess I will be in town at least a week... or up to a month if he survives.

Hey Dave,

I'm hoping everything works out for you and you family. I'm sorry to hear you dad is having more health problems. He's gotta be tough to have made it through this far. Family definetly comes first over all else. There's no rush on the fishing, we'll get to it when you feel the time is right and everything simmers down. In the meantime, if there is anything that I can do to help while you're down in the cities, let me know. I'll give you a call after my "nap".

Hey Dave, sorry to hear about your dad. I hope everything turns out O.K. I'm still gonna give it a shot on the 25th (last Sunday of the month?) I've seen sucker's below one of the dams near me, so maybe some kitty's will wanna play by then? Take care and let us know how your dad is doing
