What a day of fishing is all I can say. Our group consisted of a team of the following FMers. I St Croix Boy, Wigeon, Dennis S, Rick, Matt Johnson and Tom Johnson, our target was cats. Well we iced over 100 plus cats!!! and a few bonus crappies. The bite varied throughout the day and presentation and technique were the keys to staying on a consistent bite. Glow devils,Buckshots were the lures of choice for the active fish and small minnows on a hook rig triggered the non aggressive fish. Technique varied alot, at times they wanted alot of movement with the spoons, other times leaving it totally still was the key.

All in all it was great fishing with all you guys, I am looking forward to it again!!!

Yesterday was a good day cat fishing. There was plenty of cats caught and plenty to be caught.St.Croix Boy,Dennis, and myself all had to take a guess at the depth we were fishing, our locators had too many fish showing to correctly give the depth.I believe it was 32'though.Rick,Tom,Matt,and Dennis it nice meeting you all,let us know if you want to do this again.Tom and Matt enjoy your cats for supper tonight.

A big thank you IceHawk,Widgeon and St Croix Boy.That was a lot of fun!I can honestly say I have never seen a concentration of cats like that before.Solid red! grin.gifIf a guy didn't know better he would have thought his electronics were on the fritz.
You guys are welcome to chase some BIG cats with me on the MN RIver anytime.Probably won't see that many cats but it will be a good time.

Yep, an awesome day on the ice! Sure is a blast catching those cats. Icehawk knows his stuff out there and he put us on a stack of those hard fighting cats. Great to see my dad catch some fish, he acted like a little boy once he hooked into one and his drag started going off smile.gif

Glow Devils tipped with a couple pieces of minnow did the trick on those light biting cats.

Thanks again Icehawk!

Good Fishin,
Matt Johnson

ATM,

Me and my brother are heading to the shoe Friday morning! Maybe we will see you there. Will have Black Ford F150 with a fish trap voyager. Maybe we will stop by for some pointers, will be our first time trying for the whiskered creature through the ice!!

Good Luck

Ceasar, the key is electronics as alot of the cats will be suspended. I am no expert, all I do is find a deep hole and drill some holes and try a couple spots in that area if nothing happends I look at the map and try another spot until i find where they are holding, some days I hit the mother load some days it has been tough. I typically just use fatheads on a deadstick and also jigging spoon, but have seen on this HSOforum that people have had success on cutbait. I am leaving at about 8am from Crystal if you see me out there feel free to stop by. Adam

Adam,

Me and my brother were out there, we just fished off the big deep hole of 50ft or so. We were in about 35feet of water but tried it in 40 and 45 too. Didn't do too well, looked like right when we were set to leave is when maybe the bite was picking up. I was able to catch 4 walleyes - one that went 23" and then I did ice my first catfish throught the ice at about 24", so all in all, not a terrible day, had fun. Will for sure try the lake again and maybe get a little more mobile. We had many a vehicle going by us up towards the river more and maybe we will move that aways, but we try and stay away from the crowds and find our own spot. Are thinking about giving the lake at least one more try this year.

Dennis,

I am a Chaskonian transplanted to Chanhassen, but I always call Chaska my true home. My brother is dying to hit some Minnesota Flats. I fished it a little myself for the first time last year with very little success but we did manage a few 10 - 12 lbers, nothing like can come out of that river, but we are the almighty shore fisherman and that can make it hard. Have tried right there in chaska and then down by carver rapids, any other locals willing to share. Email me if so at
Thanks!

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
