has anyone done a mod on a fish trap guide?

Really? I'd like to see the bar & seat arrangement you put in to make it like a Yukon. That's one feature I really wish the Guide had. It would be so nice to be able to drop in one of those cup holder trays between the two seats. You lose a lot of real estate with those sliding rails, too. I wired in two 48 cm LED strips to the top tube of my new Guide - way bright & highly recommended. Otherwise, it is stock...

I also put in two 48 cm LED light bars like Iceboy. I agree with him, they are the perfect amount of light. I also have reflectix? on the ceiling for insulation. And I put in a comfy new swivel seat for napping. smile.gif I'll see if I can take a few pictures tonight and post tomorrow.

I've looked at the portable mod post but not sure if their were any guides done. Just trying to see what anyone has done to their guide. 48 cm LED lights, what brand and where can a person buy them.

Here's the 2 LED light bars and reflectix modifications that I did on my Fish Trap Guide. I think the 2 light bars put out the right amount of light to tie knots and see into the tub, yet there isn't too much light to get a sun tan or scare fish. The third and fourth pictures show the amount of light the LED bars give off when sitting inside. All the pictures but the last one were taken without a flash.

Boxcar-

The recoil wiring is actually from an old cell phone charger. I got this idea at the fish house modification get together in Rogers this fall. It may have been Paul or one of the northern "staffers" that had this idea.

CrappieAttitude,

Yep, that sure is duct tape! smile.gif Duct tape can be used for anything! The roll of reflectix was cut and seamed into a sheet to fit the width of the canvas. Next I put the reflectix beween the canvas and the overhead poles. Finally I cut slits in the reflectix so I could pull the velco though and again attach to the overhead poles. Make sure to reinforce the cut slits in the reflectix. Again, I used duct tape! The reflectix stays in place pretty well. It folds up with the canvas when the house is taken down.

I put the reflex insulation in this weekend, I have yet to buy some lights. I duplicated an idea for some rod holders from a Dave Genz clip on a fishing show. I bought two five foot sections of pvc and cut them in 1/2 so I have 4 rod holders and took a jig saw and notched out an s shape cut so the rods go in turn and go in again so they can't slide back out while I am traveling. I just valcro'd them two on each side to the rear seat rail. If this doesn't make sense let me know and I'll snap a pic. I have a voyager but I think they would fit most.

Have any of you seen the plastic trays that attach to your sled to hold various items. They are a square bottem tray that is probably about 4" wide by 5" deep. I was thinking of how convienient they would be, but am wondering if a section of plastic gutter would work just the same. What are your thoughts?

I have modified a few fish traps using plastic rain gutter for trays. Sometimes simple straight runs down 1 side of the tub, sometimes using 1 or 2 right angle corners to run the tray on 2 or 3 sides of the tub. Works really good and is not expensive.

Menards has 2 styles of plastic rain gutter (Home Depot only has 1 style). The shallower style is easier to install and works good for everything except rods and reels, it's shallow enough that they can bounce out. The deeper style gutter is harder to install but is better at holding rods and reels.

My last 2 installs have been with the shallower style gutter.

They hold up great, used them for years and have never had even the slightest hint of a problem or issue with them.

I use small bolts, washers, and nylok nuts (all stainless) to mount them. The gutters are sturdy enough that it doesn't take many bolts to secure them. You can get brackets to give extra support to them if needed.

I've never had a problem with putting too much weight in them, in fact most of the stuff that goes in there is very lightweight. They work great for holding gloves, flashlights, headlamps, multi-tools, tackle, waxies, rod and reel combos, 1 lb propane cylinders, food, beers, smokes, lighters, ice cleats, camera, etc. etc. etc.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
