Automatic Ice Fisherman

I know we talked about this tip-up last year and I can't seem to find the thread. Did anybody find out if this new type of tip-up was legal in Minnesota?

Using any sort of spring device or mechanical device that hooks the fish automatically is not legal.

In this case the way the pole is used makes it sort of like a spring device becuase when the fish bites it releases the rod which automatically hooks the fish.

You can buy 'food' blocks for deer hunting in MN too... but better not get caught using one while hunting.

Buying or being able to buy something does not make it legal to use it. Most 'big box' sporting goods stores are nationally owned and just buy X amount of the same product for each store. Other local stores will buy some products that may or may not be legal here but the same product may be in WI, or the Dakotas or Iowa or Michigan etc...

I saw this set up on mid west outdoors last nite. Pretty neat, would be nice to be able to fight the fish on the pole instead of hand over hand. I'm not sure it would work very well with frezze ups on windy cold days though.

Clam makes the Artic warrior tip up. It uses a regular ice rod so you can fight the fish. You leave the bail open and there is a ittle flag that goes off just like a tip up. I have one and it has worked well for me. No springs involved 100% legal.
