Cold blooded H20

Harp

Question

I have a Lowrance H20 Black and White I use in my Truck in between fishing these last few cold mornings the screen is very slow to fill in all the black very spoty at first unreadable it does warm up and comes out of it. I have seen people using them on sleds for ice fishing will the cold hurt or kill this thing? or is this normal warm up?

Thanks

Harp

Do you leave the H2O in the truck or bring it inside at night? I have one also on my snowmobile, but I always bring into the ice house to keep it as warm as possible. I do notice on colder days going through "pages", it is a bit slower, but seems to perform just fine. I would recommend storing it inside at night.

LCD displays have a tendency to slow down and eventually freeze at low temps. This would explain your problem. I would consider removing the GPS unit from your truck daily.

Newer TFT displays have a wider temperature operating range than the older LCDs, and therefore are more suitable for outdoor use in the winter. If the GPS unit is mounted behind your windshield, the heat from your heater should keep it warm enough to function normally. My H2O c has a TFT display. I haven't used it in the extreme cold yet, but I will be mounting it on my snowmobile, behind the windshield.

LCD- Liquid Crystal Display. Cold liquid gets stiff, real cold liquid makes ice. wink.gif

I use my H20 on the sled. What I did was glue a electric thumb warmer to the mount so when my handle bar warmers are on it warms up the H20. Just make sure it doesn't get too warm.
