Anybody here have any experience with the eskimo pop-up ice house? quality & price & space compared to a clam 2000? figured it's a good buy for the price of a clam 2000 n it's got more room 3 ppl, just that it has no bottom but that can easily be built or left out. any suggestions?

i have the eskimo cabin style house, and i can set it up faster than my buddy canset up his fishtrap, if you can find one like that, buy it, i dont know if they even make them anymore though, as all i see everywhere is the flip-over style fishhouses.

I haven't used this type of house before but the main issue I see that would annoy me is that it looks like you will need to anchor it to the ice all the time. This will cut down on its protability. If the fish move a little you won't be able to simply drag the sled over a few feet to a new area. You will need to pull up anchors - move - then reanchor the shelter to the ice. I think this will cut down on your willingness to move around to stay on fish if its alot of work each time.

Just my observations

I tried my new Quickfish III this past Saturday & I really liked it. It is very roomy & light. I haven't had it in the wind yet, so I don't know how much anchoring it will need. Maybe just some snow thrown on the flaps. My local Cabelas carrys them now, but I bought mine at Sportsmas Warehouse for $160, Cabelas wants $200.

I have an Eskimo pop-up ice house (can't remember which model). I really like it. It sets up faster than any house I have used in the past, and it is extremely portable.

As for the wind issues, I usually stake down the corners and the side wall facing the wind so the fish house doesn't take off like a kite. If it is REALLY windy, I'll stake all 4 corners down. If I want to move, I just pull up the stakes and drag the house to the new location (if it is close by). If it's windy out, I suggest that you stake the 2 corners facing into the wind before you pop the house up.
