JohnMickish
On a single side console boat where have you guys found the best location for the GPS antenna? By the console or in the back corner?
0 Northlander
Either on the bow or counsel. Mine is right behing my window and works fine. Some people with metal trim on their windows have had problems with it behind the window. I dont like it in back because Im always stepping all over the back netting fish etc.
0 Valv
I have 2 of them next to console windshield, on the gunnel, I get excellent reception, and it's not in the way.On a tiller boat I would go with rear corner on same side where instruments are, if you place it close to the wavewacker's edge it won't be in the way also. 0 LMITOUT
Have you looked at the mounting bracket that bolts between your graph and mount that has a circular piece behind it that will allow for the GPS puck to screw too? I wish I would have seen that (maybe it wasn't out yet at the time) when I installed my set up. I ended up placing my antenna on the right-rear gunnel. I have carpeted gunnels on the Alumacraft so it was fairly easy to drill through. It also doesn't get in the way of the VHF antenna when it's folded down or rod holders. 0 LMITOUT
It's made by RAM.
0 JohnMickish
Thanks for the info Lmit, I have seen that piece but didn't know who made it. That would really make it slick to transfer from the boat in the summer to the 4-wheeler in the winter.
0 Valv
Wow, I've never seen those plates, I have a RAM and love it but with that part I can move my unit from one boat to another without hassles.
0 JohnMickish
Valv, they are pretty cheap too. Around $13 at Cabelas.
0 Valv
I don't think so John, it cost much more. You KNOW a trip to Cabelas to buy it means getting more stuff, and you won't walk out of there with less than $ 100.00 spent.....
0 Hooked On a Feeling
On my Crestliner 1850 S.F., I mounted the puck antenna 3' in front of the console, seems to work great. I would keep it away from other electronics and other antenna's.Hooked
