Hard Steering

Biggerfish

Question

I have a hard steering problem. I greased the motor (125 Merc) pivot points several times this past summer thinking that it would begin to free up. No luck. My fear is that the cable is sticking. Is there anyway to lubricate this? Are these steering cables expensive? Thanks in advance for any input.

Depends on what your idea of expensive is.. It usually costs more in labor than it does for the part... You can do it yourself too.. but depending on how hard your boat is to work with.

Once your steering cables start to go, they are beyond able to help...

Just so you feel better.. my boat is in the fixem up shop right now for the same reason!

You cannot lubricate these cables, they are sealed and not serviceable, they are made that way for safety reason.

How old, which style, and how long cable do you need ?
