Should I or can I back up my new SD card?

I just bought the Navionics Hotmaps premium lake maps SD card for 150 dollar and I was wondering should I back this up? And can I back it up?

It is so small and at 150 dollars I am worried that it might bite the dust someday.

Well, I know you can buy an SD reader for your PC, but I have a feeling that you won't be able to back it up.

If so, I'm guessing there would be a lot of piracy

I just tried on a Navionics Gold South Alaska I have here.

I copied the files from card (using a reader) to a folder on my computer, the copied the files to another card and it worked fine.....

I assume you can back it up on your system.
