james_walleye
College football is fun too watch but the whole national championship thing too me is a complete farce. Props too Florida but in an 8 team playoff i dont think they win 3 games in a row. Until D1 football gets a playoff like every other sport there is, its a joke. And until that playoff is started within a week or 2 of the regular season ending and not 40-55 days later, its still a joke. How much more interesting would the whole college game be if there was a BCS type scoring system that allowed the top 8 teams too battle in a playoff system. OSU, Michigan, Florida, USC, Boise St, Wisconsin, Arkansas, LSU. Something like that, i havent looked at the final standings so i may have missed someone that should be in the top 8. But that would be fun too see which team could win 3 games in a row and take it all home.
CodyDawg
I heard but havent confirmed, that Oregon St beat USC. So that is a quality team Boise St beat. And obviously Okla. Who would want to play them? The Gophs would want nothing to do with them. The Gophers schedule is only rated high because they play in the Big 10. their nonconference is typically pathetic, dominated by directional schools and hyphens. james_walleye
They do play alot of creampuffs, but they did have Cal in there this year. That is also part of the reason for the strenghth of schedule.

That absolutely has something to do with it but only Michigan had a tougher schedule in the Big Ten. So what do we say about the other 10 teams in the conference? 222 Div 1A and 1AA teams had weaker schedules than the Gophers. What would you like the Gophs to do? Schedule USC, Notre Dame, and Texas for non-conference games and then get ripped for going 2-10. I know this thread is about other things, so to get back on track....If you want to be considered with the big dogs you better come out and play them. Otherwise, there will always be doubt whether you can play with them. All the teams that were considered for the title game before Boise had wins against Top 10 opponents. Whether it was through conference affiliation or non-conference opponents, the game to validate them as "big time" was played and won.

The only problem with an 8 team play off is, what happens to the number 9 and 10 teams when they have a similar record to the number 7 and 8 teams. Someone still gets left out and there will still be controversy.
james_walleye
Well i think it would be better too have the 8th or 9th best team in the country left out rather than possibly the 2nd or 3rd best team left out like what is happening now. I would have rather been discussing whether or not Notre Dame should have been left out of the 8 team playoff rather than discussing who the 2nd best team in the country is (Michigan or Florida) like we had been. james_walleye
Well its possible that neither MI or OSU are really in the top 3 teams in the country and maybe the 2 best teams are USC and Florida. In a playoff we would have known. If you have an 8 team playoff, the team that survives that and wins 3 in a row is very worthy. Let these teams decide things on the field like it should be instead of the media voters deciding who should play for it all. In college basketball we dont have the media voting on who should be in the final 4. Its decided on the court. In HS football we dont have people voting on who should play in the state championship game. D1 college football is the only sport that does this. And the reason it wont change anytime soon is $$ and thats a shame.
