Written permission, 3 owners

Does a person need permission from just one owner to hunt their land if there are 3 owners?

It is my understanding that the 3 owners have no written agreements between them about how to use the land, etc. Just 3 owners all with the same rights.

I ran into this last year. The property was owned by several family members....kinda left in a trust from mom and dad. Well, one of the guys gave me permission, but apparently as the property is concerned, only 1 person ahs right of attorney and they refused us entry. They had a written agreement with someone else and the guy I talked to didn't know that and legally had no right to give me permission.

I would find out who has legal right to make the decisions. If it is split between all 3 then you may need 3 signatures. It may not be har dis you can email or fax some sort of generic permission slip to people.

Thanks for the reply Powerstroke.

Again, the one owner told me that they have no written agreements, just 3 owners.

I emailed this question to the DNR, but it was returned as not delivered, fatal errors, blah, blah. Their email must be down for a few days, or overloaded.

Anyone else with experience or knowledge.

Maybe the better thing to do is ask the guy if the other part owners would object. If they do then you'r enot gonna win anyway. If they don't object then you would be fine with the one signature. My point was that you should make sure that who you talk to has the right to make decisions and that the rest of the owners know that you're gonna be there.

The DNR will not be much help since "Written Permission" is not required to access land unless its for a special hunt. If you want to know if you can hunt Joe Blow's farm, there's no law requiring you to have written permission. A verbal okay is all that is needed by law. Written is nice though if you have to prove to someone or cover your own butt that you have previous permission to be somewhere.

The biggest concern is more about covering your own butt when it comes to making sure all the owners are on the same page about you being there.

I have been close friends with one of the owners for years. (An elderly gentleman who I duck hunted with until his age slowed him down. You may have read his articles in MN Waterfowler Magazine). The other 2 owners will not give permission. The 3 owners have never gotten along since the day after they paid for the land, not on account of my friends part.

I spoke with a local sherrif and he said as long as I have permission from one, I wouldn't get a ticket, but if another owner came along and asked me to leave, I would have to go.

I email-ed the DNR and they said the same thing. All they care is that I have the okay from one of the owners. But if asked to leave...got to go.

If it wasn't my best spot to get deer I wouldn't care.
