sachem longrifle
From opening weekend to about Halloween, I have had no trouble flushing and getting grouse. Since Nov, I have not flushed one bird. I even have gone into the pine forests or other wintering habitats and still, no flushes. Do Ruffed Grouse den up after Oct and hibernate? metrojoe
I spend the first couple weeks in November every year bow hunting in Wisconsin. Prior to this year I'd only seen one....maybe two grouse. (sometimes none) Although I still didn't hear any drumming, I saw quite a few birds. I lost count after a dozen or so. Needless to say, I haven't been out recently, but I hope to get out over the holiday weekend. I know my setter sure is anxious to go.You still hunting the BLMA area? Blaze
Sachem - I'm sure they've all migrated by now. They're probably all in Iowa or Missouri by this time. Sorry, I'm no help. I found the birds in the typical places around deer season: once I found the berries, I found ruffies. Good luck.

Since most grouse flush no more than 45 yards(on average), I'm trying to picture what a grouse migration would look like

They were all holed up either under/over my deer stand or along my travel route. They're still around. The ones I saw where in a thick poplar stand. Matt Breuer
I saw two on the highway today, maybe we should all start hunting the asphalt??They are in typcal haunts, some have moved on to winter habitat, but most are still eating leftover clover and catkins.
