Spring Catfish Gathering?

CANOPY SAM

Recommended Posts

It's probably a little early to be bringing this up, but I'd kinda like to know everyone's thought's about where we should have the Spring 2003 Catfisherman's Gathering.
I was thinkin' about up around Ed's neck of the woods, or maybe the Red Lake river around Crookston. Both these spots could potentially give up some nice fish in the spring around early June.
We might do well to not schedule it to early next year - had a great time last year, but it was pretty chilly that night - not that I noticed much. TeeHeeHee.
Any thoughts?

Where the Catfish are biting...There I will be also!...So many spots, So little time.

Thats a long haul but if the river up there is cooperating, I'd give it a go. We'll have to have more gatherings than we did last year so us rats can get to know each other better.

WET NETS!

You'll be doing something simmilar in the metro like last year as well? I couldn't make it.. I had work.. But I'd look forward to it this year. I don't have the $ or the free time to just head up north as of yet.. but maybe once I can get a better job I can cool.gif

Oh ya, I will be cat'n by late April on the Southern (Headwaters Region) of the Red. First there wll be a bought with a few walleye in late March and April then on to better things, da puddy Tats.

I will work my way North as the waters warm and the fish start to move. By May I will be in Canada Eh.

For now since the rivers are stiff, I am snooping around for cats on the ice, so far more walleye then cats.

Come spring I will be all up for a cat get-together anywhere!

Fisky,
I've heard that the Drayton area ain't as good as it used to be. Lotta boys takin' the big cats home for supper? I know I used to clean up on em' around Oslo, but I'm not sure what that big rivers gonna be doin' around early June that far north.

Ditto on your idea Dark! May as well make a baunch of em' in different locations, and invite everybody. There's plenty a cats out there!

Hey guys,

Same place as this past one but a weekend or two later is the plan. We didn't catch a ton of fish but we sure had a good smart fire. Next time I think I'll start the night doing a little searching with the boat for cats then retire to the island for cocktails and sharing our big fish stories.

Depending on the year (weather) I usually start hitting channel cats as soon as im tired of ice fishing and want to hold a full-length version of a fishing rod. Ice is the only factor in when I start to fish for them. I fish right outside of downtown Minneapolis and have some of the best fishing of the year. The last couple years we have been catching cats and walleyes on cut suckers in the exact same holes (fishing for cats of course). They seem to feed in the same area at the same time .. often 1 person is reeling in a cat and another is landing a walleye... makes memorable trips.

is anyone getting together for cats in the spring or summer near the cities? i have never caught one and would really like to catch a few big cats. i have no equipment but i do have a few muskie rods(if that is what you use?) either that or if anyone would want to show a rookie the ropes. there is a cool river/dam near webster wisconsin that i see people fishin for cats(dont know if they catch any). but as i said i dont know the first thing about cats.
