Cutting the tails off of minnows?

Reynolds

Recommended Posts

I was reading an article in an ice fishing magazine I bought the other day that caught my attention. They suggested cutting the tail off a minnow to entice finicky walleyes. Have any of you guys ever tried this technique?

Apparently a struggling minnow can be too much to resist.

Yup, do it quite a bit.. Cut off the bottom or the top part of the tail and they minnow will either struggle upwards or downwards. Just another handy trick into the bag o tricks..

Another trick is to hook the minnow upside down. Put the hook into the lower portion of the tail so it tries to right itself in a struggling motion.
