lovebigeyes
Hey south dakota, I,m trying to plan a trip to the waubay area on the second week of dec. and have no idea what to do for lodging. I,ve heard some talk about private homes that you can rent out. Which I would be interested in,but willing to rent a motel room or even a sleeper house. Ive tryed going online to find something out with little sucess. I,m hoping to be able to drive the wheeler out by then on most of the lakes in the area. I do know that might be pushing it. It would be great if someone could help me out on this.My trip is right around the corner.Phone #,s,addresses ect. ect. Thank you very much!!! ifishsd
The town of webster has some nice motels. It's only a few miles south of Waubay lake. I believe it is called the bunkhouse motel. They have a game cleaning shack to clean your fish. With highs in the 50's for Thanksgiving week you be lucky if there will be enough ice to walk out. Bunkhouse is in Webster, SD 57274
Tyler Holm
Contact Sportsman Cove in Webster or Grenville Sport and Bait in Grenville. Those are going to be your 2 major bait shops in the area. For motels, Webster is about your only option. There are several cabins and other rentals in the area but you'd be best off calling the bait shop for further details on that. I'm guessing that a sleeper shack is out for mid Dec. 4-wheelers...Maybe?? The refuge area usually freezes first and I don't believe you can take 4-Wheelers out there. It's a lot of walking.3 years ago, we were hunting Ducks and Geese on Christmas Day that were sitting in open water on Waubay, so there's no guarantee on the ice. You might want to look into smaller lakes and ponds in the area as well as a backup.
webbs
I know of a couple people that have fishing/hunting houses here in town. How many people you plan on having up here? other wise I think the hotels here in town are really reasonable....like $35-$40 a night.
percherman
I usually stay with the folks at Northern Lights, formerly called the Bunkhouse. They are located right on highway 12 in Webster only a block West from the Sportsman Cove Bait Shop. The Motel has a Steak House and Lounge plus they serve early continental breakfast for the hunters, fisherman and woman. The cleaning house is very nice, stainless, with utilities and freezers. They have some great rooms with bunk beds for the kids. Look them up on the web.A nice place to stay East of town a few miles is Prairie Woods Bed and Breakfast. Very economical and you will get your moneys worth just with breakfast. Again check the web for updated prices it has been a while.
LOW Lover
Try Lynn Lake Lodge, just a stones throw from Lynn Lake and Waubay. Great hospitality!LOW
Soup
Call grenville sportsmart and see if the "roost" is available. I am sure it will be because we will be lucky if we have much ice in two weeks. As for the wheeler leave it at home, or call before you come to get a report on the ice. webbs
I disagree with that....I have heard a lot of negative things about the roost and probally wouldn't go there.....If I didn't live in webster, I wouldn't stay there.. The Lynne Lake Lodge is a nice place. I'd stay there first if I needed a place to stay.
Soup
The roost is a great place to stay, you can have your meals prepared for you when you get off the ice along with open bar. As for the wheeler load it up, got reports this past evening that stated 4" of ice in the bays. Won't be long now.
