jerky screen question

I have some venison curing in the fridge. Can't find the screen I used in the past to put the strips on to dry. I do have a piece of clean, galvanized steel screen that I thought would work well till my neighbor told me he thought the cure and spices may react with the screen and give it a funky flavor. Any thoughts on this?

I don't think I would put galvanized metal near anything I intended to eat.

I agree with deepdown that if it is galvinized the salt could have a reaction. My buddy who likes to cook trash can turkeys will burn the cans then wash them up. I am no way a expert but maybe you could burn the screen then wash it up ?

I agree to use only the right type screen, they are not very expensive at 5 - 6 bucks. Not worth taking a chance.

i know a guy who put galvanized nails in his mouth just to hold them while he was nailing on facia and he got sicker than doom and i talked to my dad who is a building inspector and he says that is a common mistake people make putting on facia and sofit by holding the nails in their mouth and they get sick. So am sure that you don't want to do such a thing!!!!
