I am not all that familiar with Ice Castles.. but please before you buy look at

http://www.sportsmanfishhouse.com/

as they are a sponsor of FishingMinnesota.com and make some really awesome shacks.

I had the opportunity to be in 2 of these this fall and it one of the best built houses I have seen.

I have a king crow and have no complaints. Had it for 4 years now. But if it was to choose between ice castle and king crow, without a doubt I would take the king crow. I'm not to familar with the other's people have mentioned.

Curious to as why people told you not to chose the king crow?

I have never been in a ice castle but have had a king crow going on 7 yrs and have pulled it thousands of mile's. It still seems to look the same as the day I bought it. Although I have never pulled any of the paneling back to check out the condition of the inside walls. I did suffer one major catastrophe with it 3 years ago when the 2x2 square stock bar that the axel and leaf spring is attached to tore and splint in two rendering me stranded on 494 at 4:00 on a Sunday afternoon.Well after a 200 dollar tow and a 600 dollar revamping of the Assembly on both sides of the house all is well. My welder also went over the whole under carriage and reinforced various spots as he deemed necessary. The problem with the 2x2 splitting was the window they cut into it for the leaf to come through was not beefed up on either side so with the weight of the house and the bumpiness of the road the metal tore until it buckled. One other thing is I wish the window in the door would have been a thermo pane because it always ices up although this may also be a problem for all door windows because of the door thickness. I will say that the house has always been nice and toasty even on the coldest of day's and nights. This is kind of an ugly thought but there is nothing like fishing walleye while dressed only in your underwear in the dead of winter. Oh how I long to hear the sound of the rattle wheel in the darkness of the night. Come on ice.

I had the same problem with my axle-leaf spring. The problem I had is the square tubing filled up with water and then froze and split. From what I've seen and heard this is a problem. Just make sure you drill some drain holes on the bottom. Haven't had a problem since.

Yea why???????

The most important part of the Wheel House is the frame, IC has had many problems in the past with their Frames, Axel and hub assemblys......also I don't like the interior materials used or the craftsmanship.

IMO there are better Wheel House manufacturers, if you can hold off until the Icefishing show next month you'll have great selection to check out first hand.

I've had a KC for 10 years now and had no problems. I did repaint the lower frame and put new tires on it a couple of years ago. I use it at LOTW and have slept in it, plenty of room. Mine is a 7x16.. Never had a problenm with the siding.. I did put some spray-on undercoat on just after I got it, and the bottom has taken the beating with the salt on the roads.. The only thing I wish was different would to have the "V" nose to help the wind drag... Happy KC owner smile.gif.... Kaz

It does sit about 3" off the ice, but I made some square inserts that I push into the openings. I first drill the hole and then push the insert into the ice chips from the drill. Scoop out the hole and it's air tight.. No wind blowing or freezeing in the hole... The 3" off the ice space helps the lifting back on to the wheels too, and if it would happen to flood in and freeeze, well only the three corners need to be cheseled out.... Kaz

I agree with Kaz. I have the KC but I switched to the catch covers but do the same thing. Drill the hole, put the sleves down and skim the hole, no wind at all. And like he said, only 3 pts of contact with the ice, but I put at least 1 chunk of 2x4 under it.
