Mr heater/cooker problems

I just bought a new otter sled and i was in the garage putting it together when i wanted to take the chill out of the air and after i had the heater going for about 5-10 min it started to spit balls of flames out, i shut it off and it still ran for a while after it when it i tried it again and it did the same thing. Any suggestions of what is wrong, Can i just buy replacement parts or just replace the whole thing? Thanks.

I saw the same thing happen last year to me. I think the problem is that its getting too much gas cuz I messed around with the turn-off knob and it seemed to work a little and I messed around with the gas line. But I'm not really sure what the problem is.

the little copper wire is not a gas line. it is actually the thermocuppler (not spelled right) all this does is keep the gas flowing on the unit so you dont have to hold that button in the whole time. when you hold that button in the first time you light it, it keeps open the valve so the gas can flow. the heat from heater warms the thermocuppler and after it is hot, it will keep open the valve that allows the gas to flow, and thats why you can let go of the button. sorry to say but i dont knwo what is causing your problem. i have also had the same problem. what i narrowed it down to was if you use the little 2 lbs canasters of propane, if i use anything other than the coleman ones, i have the same problem. ocassionally i have found other brands that work, but more often than not it is with an off brand of propane canester. if it happend with a 20 lbs tank, i really dont know what the problem is. i go through a cooker about every 3 season, so maybe it is just past its prime

good luck

I am almost positive there was a post on this last year some where on here. If i recall it either had to do with the thermo coupling, and or how much pressure your tank was putting out.

Mine does this sometimes at start up and then again if my tank is getting low..

I will try and look for that post.

I have had this happen also. I have the hose and adaptor for a 20# tank. Every time it has happen, is when the tank has just been filled and I was using it for the first time. I just set heater outside, let fuel bleed of for a minute or 2, then everything worked fine.
