Slugs though a full choke?

Recommended Posts

I used my mossberg 500 with I.C. choke and killed two deer this weekend. But after I got done shooting my ear was killing me because of the ported barell. I have a Benelli SL80 that is fixed full choke that I got from my grandpa. I dont want to wreck the gun. Is it safe to shoot slugs through a full choke? I am using Super X rifled slugs. confused.gif

Shooting slugs through a fixed full choke was quite common 40 years ago but accuracy was horrible. And as already mentioned it would be ill-advised for today's screw in chokes.

You can buy a rifled slug barrel for a Mossberg 500 quite reasonably ($120-140) and they are very accurate to 100+ yards. The ballistics for a 12 ga. sabot bullet are quite impressive. In fact the ballistics for a 20 ga. sabot are comparable to a 30-30 out to 100 yds.
