Slugs though a full choke?

I used my mossberg 500 with I.C. choke and killed two deer this weekend. But after I got done shooting my ear was killing me because of the ported barell. I have a Benelli SL80 that is fixed full choke that I got from my grandpa. I dont want to wreck the gun. Is it safe to shoot slugs through a full choke? I am using Super X rifled slugs.

i heard your supposed to shoot them only through I.C.'s. Otherwise you could ask your local gunsmith over the phone

Do NOT shoot slugs through this gun.

Period.

It may be fine for a while. It may blow up on the first try.

Shooting slugs through a fixed full choke was quite common 40 years ago but accuracy was horrible. And as already mentioned it would be ill-advised for today's screw in chokes.

You can buy a rifled slug barrel for a Mossberg 500 quite reasonably ($120-140) and they are very accurate to 100+ yards. The ballistics for a 12 ga. sabot bullet are quite impressive. In fact the ballistics for a 20 ga. sabot are comparable to a 30-30 out to 100 yds.
