Hunting Boots

The Yeti

Recommended Posts

My bear claws have seen better days. Looking to buy new boots. Wifey told me about some Irish Setters, 800 grams Thinsulate, Gore Tex, on sale at Cabelas. I have been very happy with the Bear Claws. Opinions? Any suggestions? The big difference here is all Cordura -vs- Cordura/Leather mix.

There are a lot of good boots out there. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the major manufactures. I own Browning, Rocky, Lacrosse, and Itasca. All are great boots.

I know Gander has a pair of Irish Setters that are Gore Tex with 600 grams thinsulate for $80. That seems like an awesome deal. (I may pick up a pair myself.)

Good Luck

i got the danner pronghorns 1000g thinsulate w/gortex...they are a great, comfortable boot and you can walk miles in them...BUT... the eyelets on the top are tiny and the boot string comes off of them all the time and you have to retie CONSTANTLY...otherwise, the best boot i have had.

Sounds like a good deal on the Irish Setters although I have no experience with that boot. I ,like Kodiak, have a pair of Danner Pronghorns. Best pair of boots I have ever had. I haven't had the laces issue as my laces are long on purpose and go around the whole boot one time on top then I double tie the loops. Spent a week in CO elk hunting and they were the ticket then albeit not extreme cold weather. Walking and hiking mainly with some sits lasting up to 2 hours they were great. Paired with the right socks (sorry for the pun) grin.gif they kept my feet in tip top shape. Maybe someone else can chime in regarding the IS boots. WG

metrojoe,

I own a pair of the Gander Irish Setters. Not a bad boot. I've pulled the insoles and put in a more rigid pair. The best boot I've owned was the old Danner Osprey's--all leather. The Gander Setters are a good boot for the money though.

When I lived in Red Wing I used to get Irish Setters as seconds from the factory. They had some little blemish or something I couldn't ever even find. Irish Setters are a QUALITY boot. I highly recommend them.
