We have had two cats come in this week over 40 pounds. They are so **** ugly what makes you want to catch them slimmy basterds.
I have never been fishing for cats but one was caught with lead core and the other pulling a hook and crawler.

I could have fit my head right in his mouth would have made a gorgeous wall mount lol..

Yup, a face only a mother could love but like they say....don't judge a book by its cover either. Catfish provide one of the best fights your gonna find and the tactics used to catch um are at least unique!

I consider Catfish in the upper ranks along with the Trout and Walleye and Catfisherman are also in the upper ranks along with....uh,..well..I can't think of any glorious people to compare to but we become instant buddies anyway!

WET NETS!

Fishhead,

As long as when your talking to yourself you don't say...

"you got a purdy mouth boy......weeeeeeeeeeh"

There's a tune that goes with that from the movie Deliverence. grin.gif

Yeah, I'd still like to get out there. I'll just make a mental note to remember not to crawl around on my hands and knees in my underwear. I'll have to remember to bring the compound bow just in case.

Anytime before that you want another boat to cover some water......I'd love to hit the river with ya. I've only been on the Minnesota three times. Once I caught 5 little sturgeon on crawlers, and another day I was just sightseeing, and then the day we saw you and GRABS we ventured up the 'Sota a ways and some woman caught a look at my johnson while I was taking a leak.

Ahhhh.......Dark30?

I been thinking on this mental picture deal of wastewaterguru's.

Since wastewaterguru has this mental picture brewing in his head, are you so SURE you want to wonder around the river at night with him?

wink.gif

If you do and you find a stray hand on your knee during the night or a "Gee yur purdy" comeing from the dark behind ya. Well....it would be time to try out that plainer boad release rig trick I told ya about.

It would be a perfect field testing opertunity if ya ask me.Make sure ya get pics too eh! grin.gif

You could sit back and play your banjo and wait for the big SPLOOSH & WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

I predict that Ely lake expert is soon to be completely hooked on catfishing.

wink.gif

That is how it all starts, don’t ja know.

First they are ugly, then they really put up a fight, and before you know it you have a copy of the In-Fisherman Catfish Guide hidden in your sock drawer.

Eventually you will find yourself sitting in the dark in bib overalls in front of your computer late at night, cruising for elicit catfishing web sites.

You suffer from early stages of “catfish denial”.

Come on, you can say it, “My name is Ely lake expert, and….and….and….I catfish”

Now see, don’t ya feel better already?

Ely,
I hate to tell you but I think those cats hooked you.I know how it goes and have been down that road myself. One good cat can ruin you for a lifetime!Heck my big bad bass brother got wrecked on some 2lbers out of Horseshoe Chain. You will be more than welcome here at C.A.(catfisherman anonymous)

Fish,
You dog! It's gotta be pretty sweet when your routinely hittin' the honey holes only to find eye's, bass, and muskies! I'm curious how you manage to cover your expenses on the home front - or maybe it has something to do with those earlier posts regarding "underwear and squeeling" - I don't think I wanna know any more.
Yea, I definately wanna hit the MN soon. I'm gone this comin' weekend out to the Dakotas, but I've got June 10th off altogether. It's a Monday - might be a good evening to really hit the snags hard for a couple hours. The waters gotta be warmin' up pretty good by now. Wednesday the 12th for a couple hours in the evening or night? Or, Sat. June 15th for a couple hours eve. or night. Tell me whatcha think - we'll hook up somewhere on the river.

Fishhead and eddy,

Oh no, you guys are starting to scare me.

Is catfishing fever a real thing? I just got back from the river, caught 2 cats, 10 lbs and 3 lbs. The 10 lber was the ugliest fish I have ever seen, but it sure did put up a good fight.

I hate to admit this, but I was catching good size crappies and quit to go to the river to catfish. I know you are probably rolling around laughing hysterically after reading that, but I had to admit it.

After I get done typing this I may have to go cut my river rig off my rod to reduce the temptation.

I have not tried to eat them yet, maybe I shouldn't because there is a danger of liking it.

I better quit this catfishing stuff. It has already cut into my crappie fishing time and I am afraid it is gonna endanger my crucial walleye fishing time. That would be terrible.
Pretty soon you will see me setting aside fake northern time to sneak off in search of cats. Maybe if keep denying it I can convince people I have never tried it and don't want to.

I was just thinking I could stay away from the river, but then I may catch one of them big bottom dwelling catfish in Ely lake that I have heard about, but never seen. They are gonna start coming looking for me.

Thanks for the warning, I am gonna have to stay clear of any potential cats.

Maybe I will stick to fishing Big V (the dead sea), I hear there are no cats in that lake. It will be a safe haven for me. If you know of any other lifesaving lakes like this let me know.

Do you know where the next catfishermans anonymous meeting is. I better attend.

The run around here doesn't last long, but I am afraid after the run is over that the temptation will be to much and I will make a trip for catfishing. Then it start to cost me time and money.

I was just wondering, is it called catfishing fever or catfishingidis? Do you happen to know if it is deadly or just scary and painful to loved ones.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you to my secret catfishing friends.

Ely lake expert

Fishhead,

It just so happens that I'm going to Blackduck this coming weekend (Thurs through Sat.). Hey thats pretty close to Cass from what I hear. grin.gif

Give me a call anytime (Cell 651-269-0170)
Cass was on my list of lakes I wanted to hit this coming weekend...

Along with Blackduck, Upper Red, and Leach.

Probably won't get 'em all, but gonna have fun trying.

I'm moving houses the 26th, so my weekends are gonna get tighter as the month goes on but should be able to do some half day local cat outings. I hope Ely recovers from his newly acquired disease.

Personally, I've never caught a cat over 5 pounds...........yet.

Alas…. It is too late, poor Ely is a goner!

But fear not Ely, you will not loose precious walleye or other fish time. Odds are you will up your piggy catch with the extra knowledge us catfisherman hold most secret.

(TOP SECRET INSIDE TYPE [PoorWordUsage]-SCOOP)

The biggest walleye in rivers tend to act more like a catfish and the catfish tend to act more like a walleye, strange but true.

They share a lot of predatory traits that reveal themselves over time while you fish rivers for cats or for walleye.

Some of the biggest walleye of all time have been caught using what are commonly thought to be catfish methods and baits.

For example in Greers Ferry Arkansas, the home of the SUMO MAXI walleye giants, and the most recent world record walleye, Shhh now……… they use whole trout for bait, dead or alive. This is how many of the 20# and better walleye have been caught over the years.

Most folks down there caught them while fishing for cats at first on limb line sets. They were considered a junk fish to them those 20# and better walleye, something to feed the pigs. Doesn't that make ya sick eh? Most waters that host world class walleye also host forage with high oil content forage such as trout or goldeye. Greers Ferry, Colombia River, Red River, Lake Winnipeg, Lake Mac,……..ect…….all have the cats and walleye connection…………mmmmmmmmm…….interesting eh? wink.gif

My point is you can lean to swap out tricks from one species to another if you keep your mind open as well as your eyes and ears.

And anyhow, once you’re completely hooked on cats, you need other stuff to do anyway while your catfishing, so your buddy’s and family don't think you went over the hill for good.

grin.gif

Look for the campfire glow hidden way back near the river near you for your local CA goup meetings ELY.

I can say the same.I have seen this on more than one occasion and in the reverse.Big cats while fishing for walleye. My lagest three channels have come while pitching jigs for eyes in the fall.In the spring before anyone ever thinks about cats you always get a few flatheads and channels when verticle jigging around the wood.

John and Sam
I am good to go anytime next week.I get off work around 4:00 and can be on the river by 5:30.We can do some scouting and chase some channels early, then look for some flatheads near dark. Are you both bringing your boats?

Like to join you guys tonight for the catfish league. Too bad I can't commit for the season. I will likely be putting in at Carver again about 8 PM tonight. Weather looks a little better than Wednesday night. I'll remember my floodlight tonight. I always knew that once you get a taste for chasing PU55Y, there's no going back.

Fishhead....call me on the cell phone if you guys get back around the Carver area. I'll probably head up a couple miles from the access and work my way back.
