Deer Camp

Deer Camp

A shack in the forest

A camper in the woods

We would stay forever

Only if we could

For we all gather there

Hunters we call ourselves

To share in the tradition

We rather be no where else

For we sit around the fire

And reminisce about the past

Talk about that first year

And carefully disect the last

For if you didn't experience it

you would never know

How much it really means

Be it 70 degrees or snow

Its not just about the hunt

But about all the good times

With family and friends

We have the time of our lives

Its only once a year

And we cherish it dearly

We anticipate for weeks

And remember past ones clearly

So as you prepare for another

Please don't forget

To be thankful for each camp

You never know when that will be it

For it is a special place

Sacred in a way

There is no place we'd rather be

It is part of us you might say

Enjoy every moment

And remember the laughs

Its almost time for Deer Camp

Its almost time at last

Coach-

I don't think that it could have been stated any better than this!!!

There is so much more to the hunt than most realize, a rite of passage that you share with friends, family, and all the traditions that go along with the whole experience!! smile.gif

I am going to copy this and put it up on our camp refridgerator!!!

Thanks for sharing this!

Great post! Thanks coach for givin a reminder to everyone out there what really makes deer hunting great. Its not all about the trophy buck (although thats nice)and killing a deer(though they do taste good). Deer camp is about friends and family, a time when life slows down to a crawl, as we sit in the woods and watch it come to life. The evenings are spent conversing with friends about the days hunt, and catching up. Always filled with stories from years past, the one that got away, and great times shared at deer camp. For us it is tradition that goes back generations, and you can tell it from looking at the 100 year old log cabin, wood burning stove and oil heated, it really brings you back. At the end of each day accounts of everybodys hunting expierience are written down, and we look back on years past, and look forward to years to come, and great times to be had, at deer camp.
