slabberknocker
I am selling a shotgun (private sale) and was wondering if there is any law in MN preventing that or if there is anything I need to do? Thanks SLAB
0 catman71
If you can verify his or her age by looking at thier drivers license (18) and are not selling to a known felon (as in, you KNOW your brother-in law is a felon but sell it to him anyway)you need to do nothing.A felon is prohibited from owning guns and conducting a "backround" check is not your responsibilty. The sort answer is NO. 0 mtreno
i would write up a bill of sale and have both parties involved sign two copies and each keep one. with the make model and serial number. if you purchased the firearm new the nix check with the guns serial number is in your name. if - god forbid - the gun was used in a crime and recovered you have prof of sale and who you sold it to. just a good idea. 0 castmaster
if you want to go the extra step, your local police station should have firearms transfer forms you can fill out and file documenting that you no longer own the gun.
