Glad to here you had some luck. Unfortunately I haven't been out much in the last couple of weeks, and haven't fished Ashtabula by boat ever. Too much hunting to get done this time of year I guess marine_man
Ed Carlson
Fished it yesterday, slow going for us on the North end. Some good perch action has been going on at the crossing, plus a few nice walleye is the word. For us...slow was the word yeaterday.
nluchau
Ed, Yes the perch at the crossing have been fantastic. I caught a 5+ lb walleye last Thursday there. I was gonna get out yesterday but it was too darn cold. Did you fish sibley or the crossing?
Just2fish
you guys fishing on boat or shore fishing...i already winterized the boat. if by boat, is there any good shore fishing there?? i've never fished ashtabula...
iffwalleyes
Darn right it is cold. The lake has a pretty good layer of ice on the north side of Sibley crossing today. A little on the south side on the main lake. It was less this afternoon but the ice is comming so get out while there is still water to get onto. Just2fish
With this warm up we should be able to do some fishing for the next week or so. Again, are there any good shore fishing spots on Ashtabula...I'd be content catching some nice perch!
iffwalleyes
I never have but some people I work with fish around Sutstroms landing from the shore. This time of year you might bump into a walleye or two in there as well as it is usually a pretty good early ice spot.
nluchau
Anyone been out lately? I'm thinking about trying it tomorrow.
iffwalleyes
Nope Nick I think you are the only one that fishes out there . I have been too busy chasing deer and working. I put the boat away a long time ago already. Falls have just too much going on for me. Have you been doing ok on your trip out there? I am hoping to be around home some at first ice I plan on wetting a line then.
nluchau
Jason, I ventured out there yesterday and was rather disapointed. The whole lake is covered with about a half inch of ice. Only spot open was under the dam. It was worthless to say the least. I have been having excellent luck out there the past month and a half from the crossing. I had a buddy that went out there Sunday and caught a dump load of walleye but only kept 1, the rest were a half inch to an inch too short. I have never tried that lake ice fishing. This year will be the first. Not sure where to start I guess. nluchau
iffwalleyes
That is great to hear. Like I have said in the past Suthstroms is a popular early ice spot. I am going to get out there this year for sure.

nluchau
Anyone know if there is ice left on the lake? Especially near the crossing? Thanks in advance. Nick

Seem's the ice it about 5 feet out from shore. Time will tell if I make it out this weekend.
