You would think that one should hit .240 at least before he demands a perimeter around his car.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) - Chicago White Sox shortstop Juan Uribe and his brother are being investigated for their alleged involvement in the shooting of two men in the coastal city of San Cristobal, according to a newspaper report.

The incident took place on Friday night according to the El Nacional newspaper and the two victims were treated at a hospital and then released.

Uribe and his brother, Elipidio, thought that the victims walked too close to their jeep, according to a police report.

Dondolin Alessandro, a captain in the Italian Navy, suffered wounds to his stomach and hands. Antonio Gonzalez Perez, a farmer who tried to intervene, suffered a left-elbow injury but was treated and released.

A spokesman for the White Sox said the team wouldn't comment until more information was collected.

Two weeks ago, White Sox general manager Ken Williams endorsed Uribe as his shortstop for the 2007 season despite his disappointing 2006 season.

Uribe is scheduled to earn $4.15 million next season, with the Sox holding a $5 million option or $300,000 buyout for 2008.

San Cristobal is about 15 miles from Uribe's home town of Bani, where he owns property.

And now, the new starting SS for the ex-reigning World Champ WSox, what was that guy's name again??????? Beuler? Beuler? Anyone? He's waiting in the wings.......gawd I can't remember...think he bats mostly lefty??? Who cares! I think he's an alien too though.

Just the news that WSox mgmt needed to push their decision, and I don't mean the .240 either.

Here's off Guzman's Fox page:

"Guzman tends to take weak, choppy swings from the left side of the plate that belie his strength. Guzman is a strong man who displays excellent power in batting practice, but his lefthanded swing and his inability to work counts in his favor keep him from displaying that power regularly in games."

If it's the same Guzman I don't know, but sounds alot like Uribe. It did not say if he owned a gun or not.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) - Dominican authorities on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Chicago White Sox shortstop Juan Uribe in connection with the shooting of two men in this Caribbean nation's southern coast, officials said.

Uribe, 27, is suspected of involvement in the shooting of two men on Friday in Juan Baron, a coastal city about 65 kilometers (40 miles) southwest of Santo Domingo, according to a police report.

"There is an order for Uribe's arrest and the prosecutor's office is investigating the case," San Cristobal province's District Attorney Robert Lugo told The Associated Press.

The brother of the six-year U.S. Major League Baseball veteran, Elpidio, and an unidentified bodyguard of Uribe were arrested in connection with the shooting on Sunday, Lugo said.

Uribe and the bodyguard are suspected of shooting two men, a Dominican farmer and a captain in the Italian Navy, with a pistol and a shotgun when the pair apparently walked too closely to Uribe's jeep around midnight Friday, authorities said.

The navy captain, Dondolin Alessandro, suffered wounds to his stomach and hands. The farmer, Antonio Gonzalez Perez, sustained an elbow injury.

Uribe's agent, Martin Arburua, told the Chicago Sun-Times that he had spoken to Uribe, and that the shortstop said he was not involved in the shooting. Uribe told Arburua he had spoken to police.

But Lugo said Uribe had not spoken with police and that authorities were trying to locate the Dominican national.

Uribe was expected to report Tuesday to his Dominican winter league team in the capital, the Escogido Lions, said Felix Decena, assistant to the team president.

Uribe spent more than two hours at the San Cristobal courthouse being questioned by district attorney Robert Lugo before he was released around 12:15 p.m. with his brother, Elpidio, and a friend, Jose Manuel Encarnacion, who were arrested Sunday, Lugo said.

As Uribe was leaving, he pushed away a Univision camera and shoved an ESPN cameraman in the face. He did not speak to reporters.

The men are suspected of shooting and wounding a Dominican farmer and a captain in the Italian Navy with a pistol and a shotgun when the pair walked too close to Uribe's jeep around midnight Friday, police said.

An arrest warrant issued Monday for Uribe was voided, but he had to turn over his gun to police and appear back at the courthouse later this week, Lugo said. Uribe was scheduled to report to his Dominican winter league team, the Escogido Lions, on Tuesday.

Uribe and his lawyers told prosecutors he was not in Juan Baron, a coastal city about 40 miles southwest of Santo Domingo, when the shooting took place, Lugo said.

But Antonio Gonzalez Perez, who was at the courthouse, said he clearly saw Uribe and got into an argument with him before seeing the player pull out a high powered gun and fire.

"Uribe was the one who shot me. We just exchanged words and he was really upset without reason," said Gonzalez, a 44-year-old San Cristobal farmer who suffered an elbow injury and filed a civil suit against the ballplayer.

The navy captain, Dondolin Alessandro, was treated for injuries to his stomach and hands.

He pushed and shoved a camera man? I guess he will go onto a career year next year and go to the World Series. If Kenny Rogers can do it, Juan can too!

On a second thought, I guess if the people who were shot had returned fire at Uribe they would have been arrested for.....

SAN CRISTOBAL, Dominican Republic (AP) - Chicago White Sox shortstop Juan Uribe may sit out the 2007 season after a judge ordered him to make twice-monthly court appearances in a Dominican Republic shooting case.

"I am going to decide if I am playing in the major leagues or not this year," Uribe said Friday. "It looks very ugly to be accused of something. But first I am going to resolve this and then I will go to the major leagues."

The 27-year-old, due to make $4.15 million this year, said the case was likely to force him to miss the start of spring training, which is scheduled for mid-February. Chicago White Sox general manager Kenny Williams did not return an e-mail seeking comment and Uribe's agent, Martin Arburua, did not respond to telephone calls.

Uribe was questioned along with his brother and a friend following a shooting in October that wounded a Dominican farmer in the coastal city of Juan Baron. The farmer, Antonio Gonzalez Perez, said he was arguing with Uribe and that the player pulled out a pistol and began to fire. An Italian man who was also shot did not file charges.

Uribe said he was not in Juan Baron when the shooting occurred. District Attorney Robert Lugo had said in November that he had no evidence Uribe was involved, but last month a judge decided to move forward with the case.

Under Friday's order, Uribe must appear in court in the Caribbean country on the 15th and 30th day of every month until the case is resolved. A defense motion to prevent the baseball player from leaving the country was denied.

Uribe batted .235 with 21 homers and 71 RBIs last season.

Kenny Williams wants to be like some of the other irresponsible owners in this league and throw way too muchh money at guys that aren't worth it. He obviosuly knows talent, I mean he let Frank Thomas go WHILE he was still playing decent and had had many great years played in his resume'.
