Fisher Dave
My dad used to .. he grew up eating them, as with his family. I remember he cooked them frequently in the spring when I was young.. I was afraid to eat them .. It was fish eggs.I think he just dipped them in flour, salt, and pepper and fried them up.
icehousebob
We used to eat Perch eggs. Still do, sometimes. Just flour or bread them like fillets, drop them in the pan, and mash the eggsac flat with a spatula. They are mild flavored and great for little people who have trouble looking out for fishbones. Guest
sunfish eggs are the best. Fryem along with the fillets. Perch egg sacks can get too big unless you are cathin smaller females. I always put a few in each bag of fillets. Don't forget those deep fried fins also.. Ron

jonny_redhorse
well....the way i look at it ....i'll stick to the meaty part of the fish......not into eating the parts that go into the plastic garbage bag.....lol!.....maybe i'm missing something here but deep fried fins are pushing the limit!..lol!...i guess if you're on a weight loss program those fins would probably fit the bill!....lol! or....maybe in a POW camp!...jonny
Rino
I've heard of people fixing them like caviar too. Has anyone ever had Bluegilla caviar before? Any recipes for it?
psegriz
I've never tried sunfish caviar but have made carp caviar when younger with gramps. Sunfish eggs just treat like you do the fillets, they are very tasty. I think some people should try stuff w/an open mind, my daughter won't try much unless I lie to her about what it is. She usually ends up liking it. GRIZ
redhooks
I used to giude up in AK for salmon and there were several Japanese clients who wanted to eat the eggs straight out of the fish-I tried it a couple times and thought they are better used as bait, maybe fried they are better. Another guide friend of mine had a french chef fishing with him and when they caught a big buck king he pulled out the sperm sacs added seasoning and fried them up-Jeff tried some and when he was asked how he liked it, he said it wasn't bad but would have been better if he didn't know what it was. yuk, I'll eat anything but I might have to draw the line somewhere. redhooks
The Grebe
I have never found that fish eggs were worth the trouble to mess with...especially when you have the fillet from the fish they came from! I dropped a larger egg sac into some hot grease one time and it blew up, had those little sticky eggs everywhere. The smaller sacks from Perch etc. tasted kind of bland, the larger sacks from bigger fish just did'nt taste very good to me. But then again, some people really scarf on Anchovies, even put them on pizzas....I think thay are survival food only!
Guest
All I can say to most of this thread is YUCK!! I don't have to eat [PoorWordUsage] to know I won't like it either. I'm sure if we kept asking, someone has eaten the eyes, the stomach, entrails, etc. Personally, I'll just stick with the fillets. More power to those of you who are adventurous. BLUESHARP
Cut egg sacks open, mix with small amount of milk, chill overnight. In morning scramble regular eggs, add fish egg and milk mixture, fry. This keeps fish eggs tender not dry and rubber like.
