Computer Fans

I did this last year. I bought the fans at an 'el cheapo' place. I attached alligator clips to the leads for the fan. then I just ran some wires from the battery around the house. If I came across a spot where I wanted to have a fan, I stripped the wire and attached the alligator clips...ie, too cheap to put in a switch. I ran these off of the regular battery in my perm. barely uses any juice at all.

You can pick them up at alot of places under $8.00. Most are marked with amps draw right on them, get the less amps draw to save battery juice. I have 4 in my house. 2 for the heater. 1 Big one and one small one. That way at nite or when the TV is on I can run the smaller more quieter one. But to get the shack warmed up quicker I use both. The other 2 I use for a bathroom fan and hood fan over the stove.

This sight has a 4" fan that is a good quality unit

[sorry LTH, no comercial links please]

.

You can go to radio shack and pick up a "variable potentiometer" (they will know what youare talking about) which is basically a DC dimmer switch to control the speed.

I have use these and the cheap ones are very loud so spend a little more and it will be less noisy.

I suspect computer fans are AC power, but sounds like people are powering them with 12V DC. Are these fans universal? Anything specific to look for when buying?

I'd love to put some in my shack but my fear is "zap" and it's toast. blush.gif
