what was Michael Waltrip thinking on lap 184 while he was racing door-to-door with race-leader Harvick? Granted, Waltrip was about to go a lap down to the leader, but as Harvick put it, "Maybe he should have been racing that hard earlier in the race so that he wasn't where he was [at the tail end of the field]."

While Waltrip was fantasizing that he was racing for the lead, the language on the 29 team's radio got, well, let's just say a bit salty.

<yahoo>

That's pretty funny right there.

TNT coverage of the race:

Restarts missed due to being away at commercial: 0

Start time to record race/commercial periods: 1:24 P.M.

End time to record race/commercial periods: 4:47 P.M.

Total minutes: 203 minutes

Minutes of race broadcast: 140

Minutes of commercials: 63

Appears they like to run in that 30% range for time spent at commercials vs. time airing the actual race. Fairly consistant the past few weeks.

#29 and #31 caught for cheating, errrr, working the gray areas??? Uh-oh....

Joking or is this for real? I didn't see it on Jayski's.

Never mind, found this on Speeds HSOforum.

As darkness falls upon New Hampshire International Speedway, we have learned that there was an issue with the winning car of Kevin Harvick and also his teammate, Jeff Burton, in post-race tech.

Yep, heard that commentary on Wind Tunnel tonight.

Shrub?

Harvick commented, "It was a good idea in the center of the corner but it was a bad idea three-quarters of the way around. The hole closed up faster than I anticipated.

"You just hold the pedal down and hope for the best at that point because you've already screwed up." grin.gif

Considering what a known cheater Todd Berrier is if there is anything wrong with that car he should be done for the year. He was already suspended twice for multiple races at a time...

Actually the 48 car chief had his four race supsension just like Berrier did. If Knauss was caught again I'd say he'd deserve the same thing. I'm sure he'd be done for the rest of the year for sure, don't you think? That's exactly the point, they both have about the same previous record and if they don't do anything to Berrier now, its a free pass for Knauss in the rest of the chase (and every other crew chief for that matter) and no one should be able to complain about it...

By the way LMITOUT, you as usual miss the point too, the car doesn't get parked, the crew chief gets suspended.

I didn't mean the car, although now re-reading it appears that's what I said, but rather Knaus. Sorry about the confusion. I'm well aware the car doesn't get parked, thank you very much.

I know he had a suspension after Daytona, but what about the mystery shock episode last year? His rap sheet is just as long as Barrier's. I suppose the slate gets wiped clean at the beginning of the year, giving everyone two freebees to cheat before being suspended for the entire year..... smirk.gif

If both RCR teams were doing this, then is it the owner's responsibility and not the crew chiefs? I wonder if NASCAR wouldn't fine/dock points from Childress too.

Just a question for discussion on that topic...

SHOULD the car get parked if the car didn't pass inspection under certain circumstances? I know that sometimes (at least in the past) a spring has settled, thus not making height, etc), but what about blatant infractions like Knauss pulled on the 48 at daytona? Can one REALLY say that the driver didn't know about it?

Thoughts?

They took Stewart's primary car away last year at a race and made them take out the backup so it's been done somewhat. They've never benched an entire team for cheating as far as I know, but Harvick sat out a few years back for an attitude adjustment.

I don't know what a team would have to do to earn a week off. It'd be interesting though! It would be difficult for NASCAR to do that to a team these days with the amount of money involved with sponsors, etc.

Back to the old gray area.

If there is a infraction there should be a penalty.

As we have seen in the past the penalty can have a wide range. It must have been pretty small for them not to come down on them.

According to Jayski's today there never was an issue with the legality of the car, it was just one reporter talking out his butt. The car was clean and the point is moot. Harvick will win both the cup and Busch championships.

Ol' Gordo looked pretty strong too, eh'?

Wow!! I wonder if ol' Dilner will get any future comments from the RCR bunch after this.

Wasn't he kicked out of the garage last year or the year before?

That's too funny.

We'll have to see if windbag Dave Despain has any further comments tonight on Inside Nextel Cup since the initial report was on his show last night.
