depth finder

I just bought a different fishing boat that did not come with a depth finder. What would be a good one for the money that will fairly easily distinguish fish from the bottom and other stuff in the water. I have a cheap EAGLE Portable and want something with more resolution. Can I get a good quality one for $300? If so what models should I look at?

For $300 you can get a X-125 Lowrance that has 2400 watts of power and a 480 x 480 pixel screen.

Is it a good one? I don't need frills but do want one that does more than tell me how deep.

The X-125 will be a good unit for what you want and for the price your willing to spend... Will mark fish, show transition zones, etc etc... Get to know the unit well and make sure your mount the transducer correctly and you will be happy with this graph...

Check out the specs of the Humminbird 727. With the 737 I have shown 2.7 inch target separation with two jigs tied next to each other in 30 feet of water. The 737 is the same as the 727 with GPS capabilities. I opted for the color unit, 777c2. I fished the 737 and 777c2 for 5 days on a Rainy Lake trip and they are very good units. I think better than Lowrance. 640 vertical pixels. The 727 is $280.
