Navionics chip failure

Recently had a 2 year old Navionics map chip fail in my LMS480. Chip was working fine but then unit changed to basic Lowrance map. Tried and tried but unit could'nt locate map data from chip.Tried someone elses map chip and everything worked fine so it's obviously a defective / damaged chip. Unit was sitting in sun so maybe it was heat related. No longer have receipt...doubt that it would be covered under warranty anyway. Anyone else have similar problems...any suggestions?

Best I can think of is to contact Navionics directly. They will at least tell you what your options are.

Some Navionics chip will erase if you try to copy them.

Ask Navionics to see if there's a warranty on these, but being opened software I doubt they will honor it.

Had the same thing happen to one of my chips while using it in my I-Finder. Spoke to Navionics, where they had me send it in and they re-booted the card for me, with a charge of $25.00 plus S&H.

No rhyme or reason why the card lost it's memory, just turned it on one day and all data was lost.

Memory cards are actually memory chips, just like computers.

Sometimes a magnetic field, moisture, drastic temp changes, and of course the sonar itself can erase them or corrupt some data.

It's enough parts of the file is corrupted and sonar won't read it.
