Drift sock attachment

I'm wondering why the manufactures suggest attaching it to a front side cleat instead of the bow eye. HTB

Probably because it's easier to access. It's not much fun trying to tie/untie a drift sock with big waves splashing in your face! I'm also sure it's so you see it or have a better chance of seeing it, so you don't put the hammer down with it still there? I know I'm not the only one to forget the drift sock out.

That's my thinking behind it.

I was thinking maybe it was to catch less wind, but I still don't understand it, with a second retrival line its easy to retrive and deploy, but I have taken off with it still in the water. HTB

Maybe if you stil have the trolling motor down, it's not as likely to catch?? I suppose some guys will just run back up to the start of the drift with the motor, although I suppose that if it's windy enough that you need the sock, that you're going to have to have one heck of a trolling motor to run back up through those waves, pulling the sock??
