Really stupid question x102c

Please don't laugh. I got my new lowrance 102c tonight and my boat is 200 miles away, sooo.....I stuck the transducer in my full bathtub (metal bearclaw type) just to see how it worked. Anyway, I could actually hear the echo off the bottom of the tub and after a couple of minutes became concerned that the echo may be too strong being so close to a metal "bottom". Is it possible to damage anything other than my pride for even having to ask this question?

Not at all,if you put your hand over the puck you will be able to feel the sonar pulsing.Oh yea by the way did you mark anything when you were graphing your tub?

Nope, could'nt mark anything, not the minnows I threw in there or my hand running under the puck. I guess thats why I got concerned about ruining something

lmao, my cartoon bubble has jquittum in the "thinking" room studying the graph with a couple of sucker minnows and a scoop of crappies swimming around the tub

Thanks for setting my mind at ease guys. Glad to get a few laughs on my first post. I'll have to wait till Saturday to try out my new toy for real.

You can also just test it out over a hard surface without getting wet. A hard cover book on the floor does the trick or go into the kitchen.

The depth reading will be wrong doing it this way because sound waves travel more than three times faster in water than in air. Therefore, the graph will show a depth deeper than the actual distance the puck is above the hard surface because it takes longer for the reflected wave to return to the transducer which is thinking it's in a water column. Either way, it'll show that it works!

Yep, it shows a depth reading. No bottom per se, just a bunch of verticle lines from the bottom of the screen to about half way up. I would guess I need to actually have it mounted on the boat and in the lake to see anything like a real bottom picture.
