Recharging AC in my Jeep

Question

I bought one of those recharging kits at the store, I charged it up and it still blows hot air. Would I or do they (shop) empty the old freon out and than put the new stuff in. I don't know I'm at a loss, because it holds it's charge but it still blows out semi cold air. Thanks

Your system has the 134A or did you retro fit an old R-12 system if you had R-12 you should of emptyed the system then put in the 134A do you have the gauge to check if the system is full, and when I fill them I hold the can upside down then back upright does the clutch stay on the whole time or does it cycle on and off if it cycle's on and off then you need to add more need to be carefull to much and you can blow out a o-ring and did you add oil?

It wasn't a retrofit, I had R134a as my refridgerant, The oil was built in the can and yes the clutch did cycle on and off at the start than I didn't pay attention to see if it was still cycling but I can't be sure. Yes I had a gauge and it read full. But I tool it off once and put it back on and it read that it wasn't completely full so I squirted some more in and it read full. What would holding the can upside down do, do you think that it's possible to get air instead of freon in there and by holding upside down would that prevent it? Is there a way to empty your system, I know it's illegal to empty freon into the air so I wouldn't do that. I'm just wondering if by getting air in there would it read as full???? If you empty it you will get no cooling and extremely high pressure, which is what I think you have now.

If you take it to a shop they will take care of it, you have to extract air and add gas at the same time, otherwise it will not work, your system has air inside probably due to a,leak.

I agree, its time for a professional opinion. There are a bunch of factors that can affect the A/C performance. I would be curious to know if the auxillary fan came on. If this fan does not come on the a/c will not get cold. I've seen a bunch of pressure switches this summer on the jeepsd that cause this problem. A shop will do an evac and charge with die and then do a system performance test 1. to make sure every thing is functioning. 2. to check for leaks. I hate to be the bearere of bad news but expect an estimate for an evap core. NOT CHEAP!!!, most common.

FYI, please do not use the R134 with the stop leak. This product can turn some expensive equipment into junk in a heart beat. If you have used it please tell the shop prior to service or notate it under the hood in conspicuous location.

Holding the can upside down will not get air into the system, but it could introduce liquid where there should be gas. Gasses are compressible, liquids are not (at least not at "normal" pressures, anyway). Compressors, which are a major part of the AC system, do not like to be fed non-compressible substances.

I doubt holding the can upside down has damaged anything (if you did that) but it is possible.

Probably it's what these guys are saying about air in the system. If freon leaks out, air can leak in. Air does not work good in an AC system because it has moisture in it (freeze ups and corrosion) and because it does not have the properties of the freon, necessary to AC operation, which it has replaced.
