Favorite Recipe for Fish

Now that everyones freezer is overflowing with all of those fish that you caught this summer grin.gif. What's your favorite way to prepare them?

Here's one of mine.

- One 2-3 lb Northern fileted with the y bones cut out
- 1/2 Red Onion diced
- 1/2 cup diced Celery
- tbsp fresh dill seasoning
- 3/4 cup garlic butter
- tbsp fresh parsley

Lay the fish out on a large piece of the heaviest duty tinfoil that you can buy. Place all of the ingredients on top of the fish and fold tinfoil over and roll edges up to seal. (Seal as tight as you can). Place on a medium preheated grill for 4 minutes. Turn and cook for another 3-4 minutes.

Filleted lake trout using the same foil method, except I use minced garlic, chopped red onion and a splash of RealLemon. After the second turn, move the fish either to a higher grate or off to the side of the direct heat, open the foil - puncture the bottom so juice drips onto coals/burner - close the lid for a few minutes (while finishing the beer) and its time to eat.

Say, while we're at it, does anyone have a good recipe for bass?

I have to chime in on this little argument before things get TOO HOT! Perch,Sunfish,Walleye,Halibut (baked with sour cream and butter),Northern baked the same way,Crappies pan fried. These are my favorites for the dinner table. You could add a few other "smoked" species but I'm sorry Bass are not welcome in my home.Call it personal preference, picky or what-ever! I can't stand to eat a fish that dumb!!

My favorite bass recipe...
Remove bass from water
Hold bass firmly
stick out your tongue
rub tonge up and down the skin of the bass.
put bass back in the water

Tastes the same as if you cooked it.

As far as Largemouth go, the best recipe I know is the don't eat large mouth bass recipe. Strictly my opinion, don't care for Largemouth as table fare. Now if you can get a smaller, spring time, cold/clear water smallmouth I'm there!
Nice recipes, I'll be trying them out for sure!

I AM SORRY!
I was just having a little fun and I had a "feeling" that calling a bass "DUMB" might offend someone out there but I figured it was a light hearted thing and that most if not all people could see that my comments were for amusement only. I love catching FISH. I don't care if they are potato chip sized sunfish or what.I won't lie and say I haven't been disappointed when the 10lb walleye I thought I was doing battle with ends up being an 8lb northern,or even a 5lb bass but it was still fun right? My late father loved fishing for northerns with his brother in their boat, while my wife and I chased walleyes in our boat.To each there own I say.We never wasted a thing that we caught and it didn't matter to us what kind of fish it was, people in my family really enjoy a good fish fry. Some actually prefer bass over other kinds of fish on the platter and it doesn't bother me a bit. When I'm fishing and I catch a bass I thank the Lord and the fish for the wonderful moment we just had,I tell the fish to,..."GO SEND YOUR UNCLE WALLY OVER HERE" and I gently flip them back into the lake. Ladybass,...I'm sorry I offended you but don't worry about guys like me hurting our children's resource. My four year olds favorite saying while fishing off the dock is "C'mon you big ol bass!!" I've not witnessed a more beautiful moment than when that bass answers back.--Troy

My "recipie" was meant for hummor. I imagine that people are in good spirits and are sititng at their computer with smiles on their faces and like a little humor weather they agree with me or not.Every one is entitled to their opinions. To me this is a fun place to be.I would also like to say that I do not mind being called stupid as long as that is as far as it goes.My name is fishhead after all.Which may actually be a compliment to my mental capacity!

PW maybee we should hit the sushi bar!
Hey now any good recipies for raw fish!

The best way to cook bass is by using the old boot method. Find an old boot, toss in bass filets, add some chopped vegies[celery, green pepper, onion etc}. Lace the boot tightly and boil the whole thing in seasoned water for 1 hour. Remove contents of boot, place vegies on serving platter, throw bass filets in garbage, serve boot with vegies. You can substitute woodcock, buffleheads or mergansers for the bass without losing any flavor.

Its too bad that all you people hate bass so much. I hope none of you fish the tournaments. The waste of all those bass being released and not making it is hurting the populations. I would much rather hear that people are "eating" their bass than dragging them around all day in a live well and then releasing them thinking that they are going to make it. And by the way, if you think they do make it then you are the stupid ones.

I wasn't pointing the finger at anyone in particular. I have seen a similar pattern develop many other times in the past, escalating into a negative, non informative forum! SO no need for apologies guys. If it was that bad The "overlord" would have sent you a lovely letter!

Hey fishhead, ready to take me walleye fishing on or near the MN river?

Geez, the good old trusty "eating bass" reference is still one of the best baits ever! A guy doesn't even need to tip it with anything, dangle it on a long snell, or use a special technique. Just toss it in, and watch 'em swarm.
Beats the Banjo minnow any day.

The walleye have not turned on just yet on the MN.Either that or I am having a really bad year and have lost what little fishing skills that I posses. But don't you worry If I catch a walleye this fall you will hear about it!

O.K. I forgive all those that called bass "dumb" and I'm sorry I called you stupid. I do have to comment on Ybone's recipe - it brought on a huge smile. I will say that after reading Pwaldow123's recipe for northern makes me think that northerns must not have any taste at all if you have to use all those seasonings, etc to make it. Heck with a bass you don't have to use much of anything!!!!! shocked.gif

Sarge,
I like to just use the batter style with ritz crackers. They are also good in the microwave, put filets in glass micro safe dish with a cover, put lemon pepper on with any other seasoning you like, squeeze lemon juice over the top, put in microwave for 2 to 3 minutes or until filets are cooked (depends on the microwave) mmmm mmmm good!!

Here is my favorite bass recipe. My daughter - who swore she would never eat bass is now cooking, eating and enjoying them.
Take your bass filets and soak them in milk, lemon juice and salt for about 30-60 minutes. Drain and fry them up with your favorite batter. They are great!

Try it you'll like it! Just a suggestion but there are a lot of people that love fish and don't get to go fishing. Maybe instead of throwing those injured fish back in the lake you could make a new freind with them.

Well I ate a bass tonite...a white bass.I have never tried it before and had heard they taste good and it was.I fried it in a pan with the old cracker crumb batter(just like mom used to do).It had a light flavor but not fishy tasting, kinda like a walleye mixed with a crappie if I were to describe it.The meat was firm and flaky and not greasy.I think I will eat more of these!

fishhead, We catch and eat a lot of White Bass over the year. They are a very good eating fish if you cut the mudd line out and most of the red around it. Thats where the bad taste comes from. I learned a new way to cook them this year that is just great. You take 1 can of 7up same amount of water put your fillets in this bring to a boil or put in microwave. Take the fish out of the liguid pour melted butter over them you could add other stuff like onoins garlic or your favorite seasoning if you would want. Its really good and I'm the kind of person who likes my fish fried crispy but I really like it made this way. <><Mary><>
