mnhunter2
What would you consider the best line/color for stained canadian water that we be mostly jig fishing in the rocks in up to 50' of water?
0 kslipsinker
Green if mono. I have had good luck with Power Pro 8/1 and 10/2 braid when jigging in Canada. Great feel with the braid.
0 uffdapete
I'll second the Power Pro suggestions. I used to use a mono leader and experimented with tying jigs direct this year with very good success. I still use mono when using slip bobbers but Power Pro for jigging and lindy rigging. 0 Whoaru99
I too use the Power Pro quite a lot as the main line. Depending on the situation, I'll rig a leader with standard mono or flourocarbon line. The only caution with Power Pro or other no-stretch lines is you need only some wrist action to set the hook and a bit softer rod is sometimes nice too. If you give it the old mega-hookset, you'll rip the lips right off the fish, so to speak.
0 mnhunter2
How does power pro compare to fireline? I like fire except for the fact that it will fray up with a lot of use.
0 big musk411
I will disagree with the power pro. Super lines will not be real abrasion resistant around the rocks. They will be good for getting your bait down to 50ft though with the smaller diameter. My vote is for Maxima Chameleon.
0 uffdapete
Rainy is about as rocky as it gets and I've had less problems with Power Pro than mono when it comes to abrasion. But we are vertical most of the time to try and avoid snags. It is easier to check mono for nicks but a good pull on a small diameter braid (I use 10/2) will quickly tell you if there's weak spots. I would not advise using small diameter braids if you're casting with baitcasting equipment. I've had big problems casting 6/30 Berkley Whiplash.
