Lac Seul norhwest side

Recommended Posts

Heading up to Lac Seul in two weeks staying on the northwest side, Scout Lake resort. Can anyone shed some light on a couple questions: (1) What is the water level like this summer; (2) has anyone tried and/or had success fishing lake trout this time of year on the lake? I don't have down riggers on my boat so I don't think trolling is an option but have heard of people vertically jigging sonars in deep water for lakers in late summer. (3) This is our second year on lac Seul and we used exclusively live bait for walleyes last year. We are going to try trolling some cranks this year, looking for recommendations on types, size & color/patterns. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HEY WAS THERE LAST WEEK, PULLED CRANKS MAINLY MAGNUM HOT N TOTS BRIGHTER COLOR THE BETTER, ACTUALLY I DID REALLY WELL ON A PURPLE AND WHITE LIENENKUGELS PLUG THAT I BOUGHT AT THE BREWERY BUT I EVENTUALLY LOST IT. anyway plugs work well but I think the majority of the people that fish up there are only livebait fisherman who don't beleive in cranks. we pulled cranks the first 3 days and did ok the other boat with us pulled plugs for all 4 days.on the 4th day we switched to 3/8 jigs with gulps and did great many 20 and 21 inchers all day long and the other boat stayed with plugs and had a much better 4th day also. as far as lake level judging by the shoreline it looked like it was down maybe a foot or two from its all time high, so it is probably at its normal level. ps seen a few boats fishing out in the middle of mackensie bay in 70 80feet of water, I wonder what and how they were doin. good luck gotta love canada eh

last yr was the our first yr on Lac Seul, fishing was very good, alot of walleyes 16-19" biggest was 26" although we lost two fish I am confident were bigger. Was a little disappointed with Pike fishing, caught a decent number but nothing really big. Really looking forward to going back up on 8/5, there's ust so much water and spots that look good, just have to learn a little more each year.

Yes, I was referring to Lac Seul regarding the Lake trout, love catching 'em, we used to do pretty well for them when we used to go to Eagle Lake in June. Not sure if anybody fishes them on Lac Seul or if its possible without downriggers this time of year. I've heard of people vertically jigging for them in deep water but have never tried it.

Wow, I didnt know there were lakers on Seul. I fished it a few years ago from the NW side and remember being in almost triple digit water and marking fish way down. If I remember correctly, I was told that they werent in there. If they are, I am going to try in Sept. Hopefully, the weather will cool down and we have a shot. Pike, smallies, eyes, and lakers in one body of water? That is what I call awesome mixed bag...and drive to best of all!

Even if you do not have down riggers you can use the in-line dipsy divers. They will get you a good way down. Also you can use the Lee's 1oz jig heads. They are made here in Anoka and worked well for us. The bait to tip with is the Magic scented real minnows. The pack is about $2.

Jigs work well but do not forget the spinners too, for the eyes. Trolling them can produce really well. Tip with Gulp or powerbait/worms.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
