Question

If you buy a motor with out trim and tilt, but have trim and tilt. would a person be able to use it? for example have a merc 80 but buy a merc 80 without knowledge of trim and tilt use. could this be put on the boat and trim and tilt used?

thanks-

Broncs.

Tilt & trim is short for Power Tilt & Trim which is a assembly of an electric motor, a pump and up to 3 rams used to raise and lower an outboard motor without any effort.

If your motor does not have it, you might be able to install it if the manufacturer had it as an optional. Otherwise only way to get this feature is to add an add-on plate.

All outboards tilt up and down, but they are very heavy and cumbersome to move.

If somebody says it doesn't have it, it means it's not installed on motor, but it could be added at an extra (usually VERY HIGH) cost if it was an option from manufacturer. If there never was a PTT for it you will not be able to add it, unless as I said, you use an aftermarket plate.

Hey valv. I think his current motor (the broken one) has PTT. Can he move his current PTT to a diff motor that he buys? Or does the PTT have to stay on the broke motor (unless it was an add on for the broke motor, and is the seperate plate)

Hope that made sense, got a little confusin to me even. LOL

It all depends on motor. If it's same model, year, etc, it can be done, takes a little bit of work but it's not that bad.

If he has a bad 1980 and the PTT comes from a 1998 I don't think it will work without serious modifications (consider the electrical part too).
