Ely Lake Expert
My dad shot a big elk while hunting in Colorado last fall. I was thinking about cooking some up tonight and was wondering if anyone has any good SIMPLE recipes to try.ThanksRyan
Swamp Scooter
Elk is like Venison in that there is not any marbling of the fat like beef. So remove the fat if you find any. You can marinade them up with most anything. Worchestershire/Mrs. Dash/balsamic or Italian dressing, or just rub in some salt and pepper and dry italian seasoning. You can then grill, bake or pan sear them off. Do not overcook as they will get dry. Elk is great meat so enjoy!
Ely Lake Expert
Thanks for the tip. I usually just grill it with barbeque sauce.
so haaad
I agree with swamp scooter. Elk meat has no fat on it, so don't overcook it on the grill. It's not too gamey, and better tasting than venison. For my maranades I'll do a combination of bbq sauce, mustard, worchester/soy, italian dressing, chopped garlic and pepper/salt. I usually just experiment depending on what flavor I'm in the mood for.
