1996 Yamaha 4 stroke kicker?

Northlander

Question

Ok guys im looking at this motor and wondering what I should offer the owner.
The motor is a 1996 9.9 4 stroke yamaha tiller handle. No tilt/trim and manual start.
Looks to be in real good shape. Does anyone run 1 of these and if so what can ya tell me about them?
Thanks a lot for any help!

Northlander,

I can't help you with the price... but I can tell you that the 9.9 Yamaha is one bullet proof engine that will run for a long time... even if it's already 8 years old... it's one motor that you will almost never see used because a) they're still running on someone's boat and B) the few that are out there used get snapped up pretty quick

Too bad it's not electric start, or has trim & tilt, but it sure keeps things simple - add a gas tank and you're ready to go...

I'd go for it... but I wouldn't pay more than a couple grand...

Northlander, check if it's long or short shaft, I think if you just want to hang it on your boat you might have to have a long shaft, otherwise you will have to add a bracket drilling holes through transom.
I almost did it myself too on my Fisherman, then realized mistake before buying it.

I would say $ 1,000 is a little too much too. I sold a 2000 Mercury 4 stroke for $ 1,200 last summer. Do you really need a 4 stroke ? If it's for safety use on Superior, you can get away with a 2 stroke. If you need to troll a lot, then the 4st is nicer.
I am in same position as you, I need a 15hp to 20hp as spare motor for up there.
