New carp shooting question

I've been using a 50# Bear recurve with a muzzy fiberglass arrow and tip and have problems getting enough penetration on the bigger fish - having arrows pull out. Its a standard muzzy tip with the V shaped prongs that you can reverse for fish removal. The prongs are round and not sharpened in any way and is this the culprit or what?

One trick you can try with Muzzy heads is to pinch the barbs in close to the arrow. That way it makes a smaller hole going in, but the barbs still swing out to hold the fish. I've tried some other points but like the Muzzys best. Still get plenty of pull-offs but that seems to be part of the game.

Once i broke some barbs off a tip so i went and got some long stiff nials and they hold pretty good. How deep of water?

Basskid - You're wondering how deep the fish are when I'm not getting penetration? If so, its happened on fish less than 10' away and no more than 2' down.

thats not to far, maybe try a different tip. I shoot at 40 pounds and its not to bad. so i wouldnt wory about getting a heavier bow

i would also try a diff point, make sure they are sharp. I have seen alot more pull-outs with the recurves though

I've just started, but I shoot a 30lb compound and have been using a Muzzy carp point and haven't had any pull-outs yet. I'm sure that there will be some, but I haven't had that bad luck yet.
