Is It illegal?

I was wondering. With catfishing best at night... Is it illegal to use a Propane Lantern on the boat for lighting? Something like a Coleman Propane Lantern

Not sure if it's illegal, but I think you're better off just going with a 12v work lamp. I picked up a flood lamp housing, 12V HD bulb, cut off the 110v plug added some battery claps all for $12 at menards.

The best way to fish at night is to just let your eyes adjust to the darkness and use no light at all. If you need light, wear a little headlamp and use that when you need light. The headlamps with red light are very, very nice for providing working light without blinding everyone else. Ray-O-Vac makes a pretty nice little headlamp with red light.

For watching your rods, attach a small glow stick or a bobber light onto the end of your rod with electrical tape.

A big lantern in the boat at night is going to be a magnet for the mosquitos as well. Unless that is what you are looking for, I would avoid using a big light at all costs.

The headlamps with the red led lights are very nice. They provide good light for anything you wanna do and they dont attract bugs and dont spook the fish when landing them. They also are great for collecting night crawlers!
