Broken Skeg

Question

The skeg totally broke off last weekend, my question is can i wait till fall to fix it. the mapleton marine in mapleton,mn said it should be fine any comments or advice would be apreciated.

Its a 1996 60hp mariner on a 16ft Lund w/hydraulic console steering

You will be fine with it broken until fall, be careful if you hit shallow waters, it will expose your prop to anything that can "hurt" it.

Beside directional stability, skegs are made to protect propeller from hitting submerged objects.

I drilled mine last summer and fished half a dozen times on it and it was fine. Also, the guy I brought it to appreciated the fact that he could take more time on it during the slow season. He took the lower unit off my boat in November and reinstalled this spring and it was awesome!
