summer perch location ?

Recommended Posts

Perch is right up there on the top of my list of favorite tasteing fish, and in the winter I have no problem finding bigger perch, but where are they in the summer?

I primarily find my big bluegills, and most of my bass on deep weedlines off of underwater points. I use the Aquaview almost every time out to locate where the fish are, but I very rarely ever see any perch. Anyone target perch in the summer?

I have always done well fishing on gravel bars and rock piles in the summer for big perch. The thing to keep in mind is that it helps to be on a lake that is notorious for holding big perch such as Mille Lacs, Winni, Big Stone, Leech and other lakes that you know have good populations of big perch. Otherwise bluegills and other fish will take over.

Fishing 3-6" off the bottom is also really important. The same kinds of jigs that you would use in the winter are what seems to work good in the summer as well.
