Lip'em
I am kind of a newcomer to trolling cranks. I am looking for some advice on what are the best techniques used to hook walleyes. Do you try to keep them a foot or two off the bottom or banging into the bottom? What is the best way to tell where exactly your lure is or doesn't it really matter? Any advice to this rookie would be greatly appreciated.

PerchJerker
Yup, been lots of trolling discussion lately and lots of good info. There's really two ways you could look at trolling. One is that it's a search technique where you cover lots of water, different water depths, trying closer to the bottom or higher off the bottom, different baits and colors, pumping the rod vs. leaving it in a rod holder, etc. until you find what's working. The other way to look at it is establishing a pattern that you can repeat time and time again after you find what's working - the area, the bait, the color, the speed, the amount of line out, if going one direction triggers more bites than going in other directions, etc. Just pay attention to what you're doing when you catch fish, and try to repeat it or build off it. Good luck.
Borch
It can be a very effective way of targeting eyes, pike, etc. Day or night they are very effective.
