legendelite
I picked up two rods this summer down at the Berkley Outlet store and the guides at the tip of the rod are too large for the rod. Anybody know of a place I can get this fixed? Thanks!
0 IrishZit
It's odd that factory produced rods would have a tip top that is too big.Sully
0 uffdapete
You can do it yourself. Use a lighter and heat the metal on the tip just enough to pull it off with a needle nose pliers. Call around and find a tackle shop that carries various sizes of tips. Simply bring your rod in to fit the correct size tip and get a stick of ferrule cement. Heat one end of the cement stick to a syrup like liquidity, apply it to the tip of the rod and put the tip on, making sure it's positioned correctly. The cement will harden quickly so you need to work quickly and accurately. If you don't want to take the risk, tackle shops like Joe's, Thorne Bros. or probably anybody that sells the cement and tips will do the repair for you. I take 2 or 3 sizes of tips, a cement stick, and lighter along on a fishing trip in case on the spot repair is needed on a rod and have had to fix a few from the outlet store as well. 0 upnorth
Are you talking just the tip top? If you are, in most cases they are put on with a hot glue type of a thing. All you need to do is heat it up a bit with a butane lighter and carefully(it will be kinda hot) slide it off. You should be able to find at almost any rod building supply or tackle shop a replacement tip top.
0 PikeTipper
I had this done a couple of years ago, I took it to Gander and they put one on for free. Only charged me for the guide itself.
0 uffdapete
Irish - These are reconditioned rods that Berkley sells at their outlet store. In this case a short section was probably broken off the top of the rod either in shipping or by the customer and Berkley gets them back, replaces the tip top and sells them as seconds but they don't always use the OEM or best quality tip top. They're still a good buy - many $30-$150 rods go for $14-18.
0 IrishZit
Sounds like some great deals. Where is this Berkley outlet located?
