Hey everyone,

Just thought i'd post a few pics from our weekend fishing with Rusty. This was the first time that my brother and a friend of ours had EVER fished for cats. Granted the fishing was SLOW but we all got a nice size catfish and i'd have to say that it was one of the best fights they have ever had.

I do believe that we have some more catfisherman to add to the ranks courtesy of Wiskers Guiding service. Thanks Rusty for a great weekend!! Rieberscatting4.jpg

I would have to say that these are not bad at all for the FIRST EVER CATFISH caught by the new guys. Fish were 15, 17, and 19 lbs.

First off, I want to send out a big "THANK YOU" to Rusty for the excellent time this weekend. It was nothing short of an amazing trip. The Cats did not really cooperate all that well, but we made the most of the trip and each and everyone of us caught a nice fish.

For anyone that is even remotely considering going cat fishing... DO IT! I was thinking that it would be an "OK" time at best. Turns out, this trip was a mind blowing experience, who would have thought that a fish could fight that hard?!?!?!? Rusty was bound and determined to get us into some cats, this man is HARDCORE and knows his game. The cats did not want to play as much as he would have liked, so we put miles and miles on the boat looking for them, which I did not mind! This brings up a whole another topic. RiverPro boats... WOWOWOWOWOW I fell in love with that thing. We had a blast, and my mind was blown more than one time on how well it performed. We went into places that no other boat would dare to go through! What fun it was. We looked like 3 little kids at the carnival!

When the weekend was all over, we ended with the 3 cats you see above, and a smile with all the memories that we created. Excellent weekend overall!

Rusty, THANKS AGAIN for an excellent weekend! You truly are a blast to fish with. We are hoping to come up for another weekend this summer to hopefully get into some more PIGS, but will see how things turn out with my overly busy schedule!

This year or next, we will definately be up for some more fun, and I can not wait!

[YouNeedAuthorization]-

Those cats are an absolute riot! I'm a pretty diehard cattin' guy now but that wasn't the case 2 years ago.

We fished the same spot you guys were fishing (well... I can see the snag we were sitting by in the 1 photo) over Memorial Weekend and pounded the dump out of those channel cats. We had over 600lbs of fish in the boat for 2 days of fishing. Rusty was on the water as well on Friday and fished next to us for part of the evening.

I'm not sure if you wandered across my report but check out this link.

The Amazing Red River of the North

Lots of photos from my trip and you will definitely recognize the scenery in the background. wink.gif

I had read that right before we left to go up there. If that article did not get the blood pumping, nothing will. On the way up, Nate and I were talking about what we wanted for this trip. We had decided if we each pulled in a nice fish we would consider it a success... Well, with all the laughs we had in the boat, on top of the fish we caught, it far exceeded my expectations of a fishing trip. We will be back up there yearly. I guess we have been "Bitten By the Cats" so to say!

NOt only did they get into some nice cats but the exploring of the sand bars on the Red Lake River was a blast also. We found every thing from fossils to play ground equipment.. LOL.. Awesome drift wood for mounting fish and all sorts of cool stuff. These fellas were an absolute riot. My stomach still hurts from laughing. The fishing was very slow and they understood that. We fished and visited, jumped some rock dams, then just went exploring in the down time. This river is nothing short of beautiful. The wild life and scenery are awesome.

Thanks again fellas.

Hanson.

Yeppers that was the same spot. No fish there now though. The first cat we got was up by the bridge, and a fight it was..... First cat I ever had to boey off and chase it on the Red River, not counting Canada. It was a fight like I have never seen.. We thought it was submurged log at first and off it went then we saw head shake. It just kept pulling line so we tossed out the boey and started to chase it down. When we got it to the boat we discovered the cat had slapped the bait and hooked it's self by the side near the tail... LOL... wow was that an experience for a first timer catter. I was just telling them about how cats can taste with their whole body like a tongue and how they slap the bait some times and walla.... Them cats are just showing off.. LOL..

Rushing.. nice cat.. Maybe Dennis transplanted one for ya down there LOL.. Just kidding..

Now that bending rod pic is a true test of a good cat rod.. That is an Ugly Cat rod. As you can see it is bending all the way to the handle... good advertisement for that one for sure...

Dennis, That Cat's Incredible Torney is calling your name buddy...

Deitz,

You're the guy I need to hook up with one of these days. Would be helpful to have a die hard bass guy show me all about soft plastics. I had some time to try it during opener and was successful but I need to learn the true ins and outs of plastics. Perhaps one of these days our paths will cross.

Dan,

You saw one show featuring Rusty. We see that show every day of our lives!!! The scripting is improv but we all get a laugh. He's just like our own Chris Farley (only not as fat, and looks totally different LOL)

He got me hooked on catfishing which makes him alright in my book. I don't believe there is any greater joy than sharing one's true love of the outdoors with another and expanding their horizons. Rusty does this on a continual basis.

(ok Rusty that'll be $50 for that one LOL)

Dan-

I'm willing to bet you saw the episode with Ed "Backwater Eddy" Carlson. There is a "We Live Outdoors" episode featuring Ed up at Lockport that has been playing pretty regularly.

Afterall, I think Rusty still has all of his front chompers. grin.gif

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
