Carp-fisher
Hi all,A friend of mine in the park service told me that primitive camping is allowed anywhere in Minnesota state forests. Is this true? And if so, is it free? Thanks in advance.
bbqhead
yep and yep... if you can get in there by not destroyinganything you can. this is in state forests, dont know aboutstate parks. just be advised about camp fires, i think youwould have to have a fire ring of some sort.randyrandy
ellroy2
I would doubt any State Park would allow primitive camping. I'm sure State Forests vary by state, but I belive National Forests allow primitive camping.
DitchPickle13
Yeah, it's ok. It's not encouraged, but it's legal. The regs just say to apply the "leave it as you found it" policy. Again, I'm referring to MN State Forests; there is also a seperate set of reg's for State Parks.
fishermn
Yep, you definitely can do this. If you do, please follow the principles of Leave No Trace. As mentioned above State Parks are a differnt story. I believe in most state parks you can only camp in established sites. I know that is definitely true in all the state parks along the superior hiking trail.

I'm sure State Forests vary by state, but I belive National Forests allow primitive camping. The relatively new Big Bog State Park at Waskish, MN, has some primitive camping areas located along the Tamarack River, about a 1/4 mile from the regular campground and within easy walking distance of the beautiful sand beach and the campground's hot showers... You can get more information be calling the Park Ranger office at the Big Bog Park directly... I doubt the statewide reservation office would have information on this feature... Good luck. bbb
