jbell1981
Anyone else hear on Sunday when DW said that HDTV & DLP was the reason there are more debris cautions this year. I could not stop laughing when I heard that. Is DW getting a little goofy as he gets older or was this a shameless sponser plug? I always thought that if the drivers, spotters or officails spotted something in the track, the officials would decide if it was something that would warrant a caution. I just thought that his comments seemed a little ridiclous and wanted to see what you other guys thought about it.
harvey lee
I think what he was trying to say,was that it is easier to see the stuff on the track with HDTV.But I could be wrong.Easier for the fans watching, not the officals.

JohnMickish
I heard that too, just more garbage spewing from the mouth of DW (aka the John Madden of racing). They have officials posted around the track looking for debris, not looking at the tv looking for debris.
LMITOUT
He also mentioned the officials have a large HD monitor they can watch up in the control booth. I would have to figure the spotters around the track are still the ones seeing the debris though. All in all I think it was another plug for DLP, but I don't know why DW would care about that sponsor.....oh wait, Aarons sell's HDTV's! There's the link! He's driving the Aarons car at Martinsville. Better buy/rent those HDTV's so you can see the debris from home too!
SkeeterMark
John Madden, one-who-thinks-I-am-silly that he is, is a genius compared to DW. DW is an embarassment to the sport. New fans joining a TV coverage for the first time must hear him and just say, "what a bunch of one-who-thinks-I-am-silly rednecks these NASCAR fans are". LMITOUT
If I had a dollar for everytime I heard "That was a hard lick" this weekend.....both DW and McReynolds. How about a new adjective here and there once in a while?
LMITOUT
But even though we sit here and complain about them, look at the alternative....NBC. Horrible, IMO. Benny Parsons doesn't know up from down anymore and Wally has to constantly correct him. I don't mind Wally, at least he comes off like he has a level head and doesn't sound like a country bumpkin that just finished making a batch of moonshine. Getting rid of Alan Bestwick was a terrible move too. The other guy is a talking head and boring to listen to.

JohnMickish
Yes, DW was good (very good) in his day, he just overstayed his visit by about 8 years and that is where he lost his credibility. I believe his final year he made the race on more past champions provisionals than he qualified for. The had to change the way the rule was used because of him.I honestly think a guy should only get 3-4 provisionals a year incase you crash during practice/qualifying. SkeeterMark
The sport has changed since DW was piling up those stats. Sure, he was a heck of a driver, but he still ran his mouth off all the time back then too, thus the name Jaws. This in no way qualifies him as a good TV personality. In an era where NASCAR is trying to appeal to a more general demographic and lose the redneck southern image, he is out of place. Mostly though, I just can't believe the dump that comes out of his mouth. Any useful insight is so overshadowed by his singing and stupid comments that I just can't get past it. No wonder NASCAR met so much resistance in NYC when they met there to discuss putting a track there. Wait, maybe DW IS useful. I don't think NYC should get a track anyway.
